Riverside County, California Sheriff Chad Bianco seized 650 K ballots those that are in question are physical ballots (and related materials) from California's November 2025 special election on Proposition 50. This was a statewide ballot measure concerning congressional redistricting (a temporary plan to redraw districts in response to partisan gerrymandering in other states) If this bout initiative is found to be corrupt this could have huge implications for future elections in California. Why the Sheriff Seized Them ⏺️ A citizens' group (Riverside Election Integrity Team) claimed there was a discrepancy: roughly 611,000 ballots were logged as cast in the county, but about 657,000 votes were reported/certified — a difference of roughly 45,000 "excess" votes. ⏺️ Sheriff Bianco launched a criminal investigation (described by him as a "fact-finding mission") into potential election irregularities or fraud. He obtained search warrants, seized over 650,000 ballots (in about 1,000 boxes) from the county registrar of voters, and planned to hand-count them to compare against the official results. ⏺️ California Attorney General Rob Bonta (Democrat) tried to stop the recount via an emergency court petition, arguing it lacked legal basis, violated election law, and was an abuse of process. A court panel quickly denied that petition, and the sheriff has continued (or defended) the effort. Evidence from the warrants remains under seal.
