When you realize most things are post-hoc rationalization, life makes a lot more sense.

The 1000 is our estimate based on - confirmed numbers of over 700 via various ttc reports and external studies we have read, and an assumption of poor record keeping between 1954-1980, no updates for the last 3 years, and the likelihood of deaths occurring in some cases years after major injuries…at an average of 14/yr we believe we are in the right ballpark…the bulk are suicides, although there are a number of reports from other cities that have implemented doors (and bridge protection as well) that suicides don’t migrate as much as many assume…we believe that this is due to the unique place that transit has in many peoples lives (unavoidable to get to work, used multiple times a day for long periods, high risk of mortality, ease of access, low barriers to use, etc) - if we had to guess the other bulk is from inebriation and misadventure…which could sometimes be misclassified as suicide…

@S_OhEigeartaigh Yes. The logical conclusion is this happens much more often on chinese and/or open source models, and perhaps we should consider ourselves lucky to have been given a taste via a western vendor. As our gears turn ever ao slowly and only after the fact.

This has been coming. Now it's arriving. I need to dig into the details, but it could be very noteworthy. I discussed my concerns about the pace of change in AI-assisted/enhanced cyberattack capabilities in a short paper that'll hopefully be out next week. Seems I might already be out of date.

@Stone_Tao "Increase dims to avoid discontinuity" is a recurring theme -- openai taking sin&cos (2d) before inputting (1d)angle into their dota 2 agent is an older example, probably relevant many places I dont think of

@robinc it’s really more of a stability/efficiency + no gimbal lock thing from what i understand. require only 4 floats, rotation transformations are very fast, more stable numerically for most operations, and smooth (probably why it’s used in sims?)

sim2real experiment died because a quaternion flipped into a subspace my rl policy has never seen before… that’s a new one for me 🥲

@Stone_Tao I recently started using quaternions but haven't hit this (or maybe havent noticed!) yet, only looked this up due to your post

@robinc yep a strong reason to use 6D i naively plugged in quaternions since this is the default for simulators and usually you have continuity in simulation if you aren’t trying to break it

@ashwingop @tyleraloevera Waste from carnivores+humans vs from herbivores, are not at all the same thing. The first is a health risk, the second is sold at garden centers. Many city people wouldn't really know about that.
