Officers discovered 71-year-old Darryl Miller dead on the bedroom floor, wrapped in blankets and sheets with duct tape around his feet and showing signs of decomposition. Miller’s vehicle was missing and was later located in Porter County with 19-year-old Cameion Askia Brown of Michigan City. Brown fled from a Westville police officer, sparking a pursuit. The chase ended when a Town of Porter officer used a PIT maneuver to stop him; Brown was arrested at the scene and reportedly told officers he ran because “I am done like fried chicken.” During questioning, Brown admitted he knew Miller (whom he called “Pops”) from church, had been inside the home with him, and fatally beat him during an altercation before wrapping the body. An autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide caused by multiple blunt-force trauma injuries to the head and torso, along with defensive wounds.
