the path to mass rover distribution has never been clearer. i am so close. we were the last generation to watch sci fi movies to see what could be. the next generation will simply have to look outside.

i am rapidly outgrowing my parent's basement. it's also not the best place to be testing so many lipo batteries. has anyone rented a storage unit and used it as a workspace?

@kurtis_broda this project was doomed from the start. csa leadership has done a terrible job at budget management and a fantastic job at positioning itself as a contributor, not a leader. they only do well (canadaarm, artemis) when programs are organized for them by international partners

@robotsailor My confusion of CSA priorities intensifies. Not sure if any major program is going to hit its goals this decade...

while this is sad news, it is not surprising. i've spoken with many engineers on this team, and anyone in the industry could've seen this coming. costs were exceedingly overinflated. i dont doubt however, that we will have rovers on the moon much sooner than most realize.

@david6utierrez the path to building effective generalized intelligence is through compounding intelligence in niche applications. took longer than it shouldve for most to realize this

@robotsailor Crazy how much the pendulum has swung away from building generalized platforms and towards things that actually generate value in real-world environments. Learning an increasing number of specific skills = LT general abilities.

there will eventually be so many competing robotics companies that neither hardware or software will be a moat. the moat will come down to operational hours in the field. companies that deploy robots as operators outside of controlled environments will win.

The best robotics wedge nobody’s talking about: Industry-specific form factor → teleop deployment → proprietary workflow data → agentic automation layer on top built into the systems of the end customer → full autonomy explodes margin over time Lower COGs than general-purpose humanoids. Real revenue on day one. Switching costs before you’ve touched autonomy. Distribution, cost structure, process power, counter-positioning and cornered resources are moats. Robots aren’t exempt from this.

i struggle to sleep with the excitement for what the future will look like. i am maybe too optimistic that robots will not only create a better world, but a safer and healthier one too.
