What is the proper way to caption someone saying "I don't know" but without the words and just a kind of vocalization with their mouth closed of three notes that clearly means I don't know? How's this: - MmMMmm (I don't know).

Writing loglines – it's really difficult but I really enjoy the process. There's really nothing quite like it to help you figure out what is really at the core of a film.

When there's not enough time in the day, but you still want to watch a 3hr movie, it's actually quite fun to pick out the best cliffhanger to pause on and continue the next day

After school pickup the other day, got the questions "how do people make babies?" And "who was the first person born?" From 5yo. I was pretty impressed by his follow up question.

In Fault Lines on the Front Line, workers on the front lines of sectors hit hardest by the pandemic share firsthand stories. Beyond COVID, Fault Lines will have us questioning what our labour is worth. And what still needs to be fought for. Watch this film at #CLiFF15! #canlab

@stevecutsdocs Yes but not all documentary is argumentative by nature. So while I would agree to an extent with what you're saying for docs that try to broadly cover an issue with wide ranging opinions, interviews etc, other approaches with deep POV are perfectly legitimate and entertaining.

@robviscardis but by neglecting the opposition (in good faith) one gives up the the win. It's like two sport teams having the victor choosing by committee. College sports would be a bore.

1/13 Percival's Uncle: In my early years cutting documentary I discovered Percival’s Uncle, and the value his archetype could bring to storytelling.

@stevecutsdocs Nice, interesting. But to say if there's no battle over the truth or opposing opinions it's not a real story is a bit much. Would deny many of the greatest docs with a specific pov, or that don't resort to both sidesism. Can still be nuance and conflict within that limitation

13/13 Think about Percival's Uncle in your next film and let me know how a centuries-old storytelling foil inspires your work.

Man, releasing this thing has been like dropping a rock down a dark well. Haven’t heard it hit the bottom, but trusting it’s finding the right people. ✌🏼

EP003 - feat. @NotNikyatu is out now. I loved this conversation so much. Recorded in 2019, back when her rise was all but obvious to those of us who *knew.* I’m so excited for Nikyatu and where she’s headed. This is a special time capsule. Find it anywhere you listen to podcasts
