After 19 years of owning my own thing, I thought it wise to share my lessons learned: - The hard work never stops. - Knowing your purpose changes everything. - Serve people, not yourself. - Set the vision & patiently focus. - "Adapt or die" always holds true. 🖖

Recent rebrand for a 100+ year old bar in Berea, KY.

@nicgirard_ Have been shifting away from "graphic design" slowly for a decade and moving into brand-centric consulting. Design is a process + output. Leadership and brand building (beyond identity work) is a skill successful people and companies will always want. Focusing on THAT part.

this is all cute ha - ha, but honestly - is anyone kinda trying to learn a new trade to pivot to once all graphic desing jobs reduce by… maybe 90% over the next few years? not looking for doomer responses but realistically, what is your 2nd career plan?

Recently reread Shoe Dog, the story of the founder of Nike. Have a line that is inspiring how I serve as Head of Creative at @alwayscreative: "Don't tell them HOW to do it. Tell them WHAT to do and expect great results." AKA: Explain your what. Trust their how. Repeat.

Shane Gillis as Donald Trump and Adam Ray as Joe Biden appear on Tony Hinchcliffe’s comedy show. Some much-needed comedic relief after this hectic weekend. Gillis could be seen breaking character after he couldn't hold in his laughter while reacting to Ray's impersonation of Joe Biden. 😂😂

My company "failed" during late 2019 + 2020. Chose not to say anything and instead just took a step back. In that failure, I found our purpose and built everything around it. Happy to report 2023 broke records. Now 2024 will. Cheers to you and yours. Let's get it. 🚀

@robyfitzhenry @jefielding Not denying their work but not very relevant at preseed, seed. In my experience if the founder is struggling to pitch/story tell, the fancy content makes things worse. I always advise founders to go one level lower and explain things simply, sometimes with bullet points

@ppgosavi @jefielding Great designers can do a lot more than just create pretty stuff. They write content, solve user flow, make memorable assets, and help companies tell great stories. Much higher value than just "slide design." Great creatives transform companies into brands & help land huge deals.

@jefielding It still baffles me that pre-seed/seed companies use professional deck designers. Professional deck designers do make a difference at late stage particularly when you are talking to pure financial investors
