@Tylon_The_Ninja @Mattgamer003 it feels unearned because it is, denji refused to let pochita leave and was a fucked up teenager till the end (which is FINE!), just let me see the consequences of his actions, him dying, whatever, don't strip everything he did in 231 chapters because "this can't end like this"

@Tylon_The_Ninja @Mattgamer003 world did not end, devils are still there, denji "died" (though he's actually immortal, but was eaten like makima) but he also died whe he was captured and cut to pieces, so? yet, the point is pochita did it and forced denji to be better, denji never chose to be better

I don’t hate the idea of the Chainsaw Man ending in theory, but it feels so unearned. It just kinda happens with zero build up and it’s caused by an action Pochita could have made in chapter 2. The whole story leading up to it feels pointless

@MannyMarr @GemerGlobin @LegoAlex98 imagine if the ending of breaking bad was jesse coming up with a time machine so they can go to a timeline where walter did not get cancer and didnt had the opportunity to show his greed and build the drug empire, which was the whole point of the character

@MannyMarr @GemerGlobin @LegoAlex98 it would have been completely okay to me for denji to end up dead or living a fucking hell because that made sense according to the plot, it's the non-accountability of everything that happened throughout the story that bothers me

Starting to think reading only manga truly fries your brain bc why is everyone acting like a 12yo The characters are a means to spread a certain message to the reader, who cares if they are not aware of it themselves dude the author is speaking to YOU!

@estrodiol that doesn't invalidate that reset endings are often dogshit and a textbook example of a fucked up ending, and csm is one of them

every time a story ends on its own thematic terms theres always that guy whos addicted to accountability and consequence slop. whenever someone brings that up they probably took children's games such as "cops and robbers" very seriously

@estrodiol not because he chose not to, no, but because he CAN'T be chainsaw man anymore, so yeah, of course, if a god magically removes something that harms you from your environment, you have the chance to be better, isn't that common sense?

@estrodiol a LESS fucked up environment which, surprise, leds him to be a POTENTIALLY less fucked up character (we only see this for one chapter), so yeah, no real development, no grow, his old self died as a fucking disaster and the new one is better because he CAN'T be worse

people think denji didn't earn this happy ending when the story talks to the screen and says all this shit happened to him because he was forced to be chainsaw man by virtue of being alive

@1wingedeva so to show this we spend 231 chapters showing how the bad people are victim of their circumstances and then we **suddenly** switch to 1 chapter where they are shown in a better environment and, surprise, they CAN be potentially better (just a single rushed chapter)

@rodddella you can’t read this as bad/flawed/harmful people are often victims of their circumstances and would be better people under different ones? i mean to put it as reductively as possible really. engage with the art as it is, not as you want it to be you know

@Tylon_The_Ninja @Ichigo_WD the thing is that NONE of the decisions/actions asa took led her to this alternative timeline where the thing that made her live a worse life didn't happen (pochita reset + denji saving her from falling), so... okay? if nothing bad happens, she's better? how come?

@Tylon_The_Ninja @Ichigo_WD oh, so you're telling me that if asa does a mistake and is placed in a fucked up environment, she is likely to become fucked up too, but if you place her in a favourable environment and she avoids the mistake, things are better for her? common sense?

I don't understand why people keep just restating what we can all clearly see from reading the final chapter. My issue isn't that Asa got what she wanted. My issue is that it was done by undoing everything that happened prior. It's cheap writing.
Miguelino@miguelinop

@Ichigo_WD She was straight up given the happy ending she wanted: a normal life. Denji (via Pochita's actions) sacrificed his life as chainsaw man, and their love, for the world were Asa was free of all the trouble she encountered by being possessed with Yoru.

@1wingedeva "Okay, we know this guy is so fucked up as it is right now. Let me show you what if we remove something that made him a worse person: look! now he CAN be better, but not because he CHOSE TO, but because he CAN'T become what made him a worse person!! how come!!"

@1wingedeva it's not hard to follow, my point is that the ending is completely unnecessary then. Look, the whole point is that denji + chainsaw man is a fucked up guy bc he can't make decisions and fucks everything up around him. The ending is, literally:

@MartyFarty6 @MatinaComics @snickertinkle @danny_saaan so that's exactly my point, when we've already seen him not being able to make decisions, do we really need a reset to remove what we all know made him a worse person to say "oh, look, now he CAN be better!! but just because he CAN'T be chainsaw man anymore, not bc he chose to!"

@rodddella @MatinaComics @snickertinkle @danny_saaan Youre focusing too much on the environment of the characters, the point is that both timelines suck but Denji was never given the chance in the first one to become happy beyond simply getting what he wanted through being chainsawman, in the second timeline he has that chance

ULTIMO CAPITULO DE CHAINSAWMAN. NO FALTES.
The concept that Asa lost character development because of the world reset is flawed. Her entire story revolves around carrying guilt that isn't hers and clinging to a reason to live because of it. Her savior complex was harming herself

@MartyFarty6 @MatinaComics @snickertinkle @danny_saaan 232 chapters* and then, this change doesn't even happen because of his decision, happens because of external reasons... okay, so the whole point of the plot was to show a "what if environment is bad" for the ending to show "what if environment is not so bad"

@MartyFarty6 @MatinaComics @snickertinkle @danny_saaan it's not that i dislike the message, but i find the way it was conveyed to us so disappointing: sure, if denji is born king of england, he's likely to have a better life than if he's born a groomed child? so you need 232 to show that to me?

@1wingedeva @GemerGlobin @LegoAlex98 yeah, except cutting off the relationship you've been in too long was NOT a decision the person who was suffering made, but an external decision, so what was it all about then?

@GemerGlobin @LegoAlex98 if you want to read into pochitas “suicide” think of it more figuratively: cutting off a relationship you’ve been in too long for selfish reasons. you can move past trauma, not with unhealthy coping mechanisms and getting retraumatized though. shift your perspective slightly.

@MartyFarty6 @MatinaComics @snickertinkle @danny_saaan and i actually didn't want them to take the reigns of everything, in fact, denji being a groomed teenager who couldn't make decisions was exactly what made the story appealing to me because it was so real! in reality you can't get away from your environment nor reset it

@rodddella @MatinaComics @snickertinkle @danny_saaan Well the story is not about them taking the reigns of every aspect of their lives, they cant, they can however live the best possible way they can without getting everything they want, you re searching for deeper meaning than that, but chainsawman was never that complicated.
