I'm not anti-edtech.
I love my write-on tablet. I love my screen. I couldn't teach without OneNote or @Carousel_Learn.
I am NOT anti-tech.
I am anti giving children something that I know will distract them when I need them to focus.
I am anti allowing children to use a portable safeguarding nuclear warhead on school premises.
I am anti experimenting on children in the name of "progress".
I am anti the fatalism of claiming "this is the way the world is now", or "there's no turning back".
I am anti using gamification and the pursuit of short term extrinsic dopamine hits when learning is both a long-term process and its own reward.
I am anti pursuing tech pedagogical solutions in cases where the non tech solutions (like explicit instruction) are oven-ready and perfectly sufficient.
I am anti allowing the discourse to be guided and dominated by tech billionaires, educational futurists, and those who don't feel the need to do the work of teaching underprivileged children.

No student should be allowed to use a laptop, tablet or phone in class. You might think you "can use them well" but you can't, sorry. You stand to lose everything for a tiny gain that will never materialise.

I think as a system we are getting better at teacher training but every so often I see something and think "damn we've still got a way to go" We are *burdened* by the weight of decades of bad ideas.

@adamboxer1 @BenRiceTeach Nice! I always thought no opt out was a better term for when they say "I don't know" rather than getting something wrong. Is looping a TTA term or did you come up with it?

@rodrigotweets1 @BenRiceTeach yup! we call it Looping, because Bjord didn't "opt out", he just didn't know the answer! The Loop is there to check that he understands it once it's been explained

@adamboxer1 I have been nagging our IT department for ages about getting a write-on device - we have interactive screens at the front but don't like having to turn away from the class to do live modelling!

It's 2025. We've tried lots of tech in education. What hardware should all schools have?
🖊️ Every teacher should have a write-on device, like an iPad, Windows Surface, or Lenovo Yoga.
📺All classrooms should have a screen. No projectors. Interactive is optional. Must have a freeze button.
🔌All screens should have wireless casting, so no cables required to get from device -> screen.
📷All classrooms should have an Ipevo visualiser.
🧍♀️All classrooms should have a stand to put a device or visualiser on.
🛜Wifi needs to be strong and stable in every classroom in the school.
Explicit instruction works better with all of the above.
