Most teachers in this country are regularly observed as part of their professional development. Two thirds of teachers do not think this has made a difference to their actual practice. Teachers do not understand the feedback they receive. They do not agree with the feedback they receive. They do not feel willing or capable to implement the feedback they receive. These things are facts, and they are both worrying and upsetting. And none of this is a secret. We all know it, we've all experienced it. When we asked Carousel Teaching users what topics they wanted us to make courses on, the most common response was "how to observe lessons and give feedback." @BenRiceTeach and I are now MAD EXCITED to announce our How To Observe a Lesson and Give Feedback course. It's mega. We filmed a bunch of lessons, and we also filmed me observing those lessons. We deconstruct the science of observations, and the art of giving feedback. It's pretty damn innovative, and we're confident it will help teachers and leaders get better at these critical skills. We will also be delivering a FREE webinar where we will look at some of the core strategies, do make sure to come along :) For more on the course: carousel-learning.com/resources/blog… For more on the webinar: eventbrite.co.uk/e/how-to-obser… To book a demo so we can show you the whole platform: carousel-learning.com/teaching?utm_s…

I was opening some cards from my Y13s today and several thanked me specifically for introducing @Carousel_Learn this year. One example: “Carousel quizzes are genuinely genius…it has made the biggest improvement in my long term memory.” Thank you so much for your platform!

In an emotional sense, being a safeguarding lead is surely the hardest job in a school. In a workload and "juggling sheer number of things" sense, being a head of department is surely the hardest job in a school. In a technical sense - I.e. actually being able to execute the thing you want to do - being a T&L or CPD lead is surely the hardest job in a school. So many things need to be worked out, thought through and strategised for. You have to be an expert in classroom practice, staff culture, policy construction, relentless communication, radical candour, negotiation, idea selling and much much more. So let us help. Please. Come see us tomorrow evening and I can show you how we can support you. Please. Trust me!

Why are so few people interested in doing retrieval practice properly? I had a Friday thought: doing retrieval properly is fundamentally a technocratic process. It involves systems, policies, processes and relentless accountability for relatively boring things (both staff and students). Its benefits cannot be seen immediately, and take months and years to manifest. It doesn't lend itself to quick things or resources you can post and get a million likes and requests for downloads. Also, it's especially important for the students who are targeted by the "inclusion" agenda, but particularly hard to implement properly for those students. It's much easier to land on less effective approaches for them. There is less resistance. And, therefore, it isn't exciting or fashionable or sexy. It's hard work. It's dry. It's technocratic. So people scroll on by, and focus on something else instead.

Updated stats on my exam classes' quizzing habits: Homework quizzes: Year 11 have answered a minimum of 1600 questions since Sept (they answer each question in the quiz at least twice) Year 13 have answered a minimum of 1160 questions (they answer each question at least once) Study packs: students have created these quizzes themselves, and there's a lot of them. Whiteboard: these are the quizzes at the start of every lesson, so Y11 have done an additional >200 questions. Year 13 is less, because we often start with an exam question instead. Completion rates are VERY high. It takes a big effort in the first month of the year, then takes care of itself with a little maintenance after that. Because I use Carousel Learning's revolutionary C-Scores, I know that students aren't just answering LOTS of questions, but they are perfectly pitched in terms of their difficulty and relationships to spacing and the forgetting curve. I am REALLY pleased with these numbers, and I definitely couldn't do it without Carousel Learning. There's no doubt it is making a huge difference to their knowledge and understanding 💪💪 Find out more at the site or DM me! carousel-learning.com/?utm_source=x&… (Examples of the kind of question they are answering below)
