Former Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the shutdown of all German nuclear power plants in 2011, in response to a tsunami in Japan. 15 years later, a clear majority of Germans realize it was a mistake. Other sources of electricity, such as natural gas, are in tight supply with sanctions against Russia and LNG blockaded in the Middle East. Wind and solar have proven to be unstable, forcing Germany to rely on France's nuclear power plants to maintain a stable electric grid. Electricity prices in Germany are 2x to 3x more expensive than the USA, which is forcing Germany's manufacturers to close and move production to other countries. Lousy energy policy has consequences.

Ironic because of his struggle with addiction. I heard an apocryphal story, one of those a friend of mine stories, in Boston, where the friend saw Miles standing outside a joint in a sharkskin suit talking shit about how great he's doing, looking pretty rough. The friend doesn't say a word and just puts a $100 bill in Mile's breast pocket and walks away. Cicely Tyson described doing this, in general putting money in his pockets to make sure he had cash, but I heard the story as someone else, and it was done in the manner to call BS as guys might do. So either the story was altered or happened with other people too. Point being, he did end up pretty rough.
