@rorysutherland As someone who hates queuing even more than printing my own bag tag, I would always welcome a self check in option

I was once at Dublin airport and noticed someone struggling with the screen on the self-tagging machine at check-in. I won't name him, but he held a Nobel Prize in Economics. BA rolled back on this daft idea at LHR. At some point, when you arrive at an airport, you want a human being to say "Right, you're good to go."
Tom Goodwin@tomfgoodwin

Whoever decided self check-in and bag tagging for biz class was a good idea should be shot. Employing huge swathes of staff to train customers how to do their jobs is inexcusable in the hospitality industry. Management consultant thinking is poison

@TheBodtrainer @bryan_johnson Does that not apply to all weight loss caused by calorie deficit alone? All methods of weight loss require resistance training to preserve muscle

@bryan_johnson Seventy pounds in 80 weeks. What the headline doesn't say is how much of that was muscle. In my experience with adults over 50, the answer without resistance training is: a lot more than anyone wants to hear.

These numbers are shocking. It's like we got a new frontier AI model but for the body. Lilly's phase 3 results for retatrutide: > highest dose lost 28.3% of body weight in 80 wks > 70 lbs ave > 45% lost 30% or more of their body weight > 65% on the top dose no longer clinically obese Retatrutide is more dynamic than semaglutide and tirzepatide because it targets three receptors (GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon), versus one and two, respectively. Side effects, on the highest dose (12mg), were higher for retatrutide than tirzepatide (nausea and GI), with an 11.3% drop out rate. The lowest 4mg dose still delivered 19% loss with fewer dropouts than placebo.

Even if you don't believe in climate change, the ongoing Middle East crisis should be enough to convince all that we're right to move away from reliance on oil and gas.

@Fahadnaimb I can’t believe it’s retraining. BA can dismiss easily if he’s only been on staff for a short time. Leave it until after probation and it’s almost impossible.

Picture this... it's your second day as a British Airways flight attendant and you’re already living the aviation nightmare. 😅 Yesterday afternoon (May 16), on BA217 from Heathrow T5 to Washington Dulles, a brand new crew member on literally his second flight ever heard the captain say 'Cabin doors to automatic' during pushback... and thought it meant 'open the damn door.' Boom... he yanks the handle on Door 3L. Emergency slide deploys full send onto the tarmac. Fire trucks roll in thinking it's a real evac. The 26-year-old Boeing 777-200ER (G-VIIY) sits there for over SIX HOURS while engineers swap the slide and check everything. That one mistake cost BA a fortune... new slides aren't cheap, plus lost slots, crew hours, etc. Passengers were stuck on the plane or gate for ages. As someone who's been through the training, they DRILL this into you: door ops are sacred. One wrong move and you're suspended + retraining. Poor guy must be mortified. * The images are taken from far away and are low quality. These are upscaled images. I'll post the originals in the comments.

@malcolm_reavell I don’t know why they hadn’t thought of this before? We could have HS2 all the way to Scotland and 10 runways at Heathrow and an NHS that is the best in the world!

No, Neil, you are the one displaying economic illiteracy of Trussian proportions. The UK govt creates and spends money into existence. It sells bonds to drain excess reserves its prior spending created. Not a penny is “borrowed”. The markets need bonds. Govt doesn’t need markets.
Andrew Neil@afneil

This is economic ignorance of a high degree, even for my old mate Diane. If you don’t want to be ‘dominated’ by the bond markets then don’t borrow £3 trillion from them. Be honest with the people and explain how your idea of socialism will entail EVERYBODY paying a shed load more in tax. If you can’t do that then you will be in hock to the bond markets. It’s as simple as that.

@ciarancannon I’ll give you the average cyclist here, breaking red lights, out in the middle of the road, no visibility, no lights when dark, cycling on roads next to bike lanes. They are a menace to society.

@mrbunnykelly @ciarancannon Therefore to get cars of the roads we should build bike lanes, in the same way we build footpaths to get pedestrians off the roads

@ciarancannon There’s a reason we don’t walk on roads yet somehow pedalling a metal frame with wheels is seen as a sensible way to travel. Any other activity and it would be banned because it’s clearly too dangerous. Get bicycles off the roads.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The Strait blockade just produced its first real result. Tehran has dropped its demand that the U.S. lift the Strait of Hormuz blockade before ceasefire talks can begin. That was the hardest precondition on the table. Now it's gone. Iran is also offering to put its nuclear program on the table in exchange for sanctions relief, and is signaling it's ready to return to negotiations in Pakistan as early as next week. After months of deadlock, this is the first real sign that a deal is possible. Source: Wall Street Journal

When I go to the States, I find the malls, cars & TV shows more familiar to me than the people. When I go to the UK I find the people more familiar to me than the malls, cars & TV shows. That's the difference.
