Clicked these thermal images during an auto ride today in Delhi. The ambient temperature today was 43 degrees celsius today but thermal images of different surfaces both within and outside the auto was reached upto 60 degrees celsius. We seriously underestimate what extreme heat does to the human body. We should start asking who is responsible for this rising heat and are those more vulnerable and exposed to extreme heat responsible for rising heat.

On the topic of dustbins... I grew up in Delhi. In 2008 after bombs blasted in some markets and some found in dustbins, Delhi Metro decided to ban dustbins in stations. "fair enough" I thought - cost of terrorism is this When I came to London, another city famously devasted with terror attacks in the metro, what I find is they just moved to using transparent packets as bins so it is easy to see what is inside. 🤦‍♂️ When you operate from a point of the bins being non negotiable, you find a solution without removing the bins altogether.

Allahabad was the capital of UP till 1921. That's the reason many British-era government offices (railways, revenue, accounts, education, law) is headquartered here. That's the reason the legislative assembly has a building here. That's the reason chhota Governor General has a residence here. Late 1921, the capital shifted to Lucknow. The official, textbook version is: Lucknow is more centrally located. The unofficial, local-legend version is: When the prince of Wales came a-visiting in 1921, he was greeted with empty streets. No flags, no buntings, no cheering crowds. - "Isn't this the state capital?", he growled, annoyed. - "It is, your Highness, but it's also the home of the Nehrus and everyone here is doing civil disobedience and non-cooperation." - "Then shift the capital, I say."

Tell me a piece of trivia about your city that you think most people will not know. Here's mine: The official name of Marine Drive in Mumbai is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road.

India has a strange blind spot when it comes to eggs. For starters, we have, against all common sense, declared it non-veg, which automatically comes attached with moral baggage, and then on top of that, even in families that eat meat, the idiotic idea that eggs are “heating” (taseer) reduces its daily/weekly consumption.

Claude Code deleted a file from my repo while “exploring” & adding plan files 💀 I didn’t run any delete — subagent had bash access, probably nuked it. If you’re vibe coding, you might not notice 👀 Lesson: don’t give agents shell access w/o guardrails 🔥

Hey! I am actively looking for a full-time backend engineer role, since my current stint would be coming to an end. I'm tech-stack agnostic, but I prefer Go or Elixir roles. A little about me: I am a backend engineer at heart, and I enjoy building and writing about backend systems. I like solving problems and am a Knight on LeetCode with a rating of 1875. I also run a blog where I write about my projects, Vim, Golang, and personal essays. It currently has 40K+ readers across 100+ countries. Over the past year, I have built and worked on some interesting things: - Currently building Postbox at Variant Systems, an AI agent-native form backend platform developed in Elixir - Amazon Dynamo implementation in Elixir with quorum replication, vector clocks, and gossip protocol - Tail at Scale in Go benchmarking p50/p95/p99 latency under failure scenarios - Brainrot Language Server in Go, an LSP for a slang-inspired language, featured in Golang Weekly Some other things that might be interesting: - 2x Kaggle Expert - Featured in Golang Weekly, Golang News, and Hacker News - Delivered a talk on fzf configuration and workflows at CLI Heroes, a developer event by One2C

👋 it was human error. Our deploy process has a few manual steps, and we didn’t do one of the steps correctly. We have landed a few improvements and are digging in to add more sanity checks. Like with any other incident, the counter-intuitive answer is to solve the problem by finding ways to go faster, rather than introducing more process. In this case more automation & claude checking the results.

2004 was a good year, but your Gmail address doesn't need to be stuck in it. To say goodbye to v0t3f0rp3dr02004@gmail.com or mrbrightside416@gmail.com (or whatever you were into at the time), go to your Google Account settings and choose any name available. You'll keep your old username and you can sign in with both.
