Today, the Governments of Canada and Alberta announced an agreement-in-principle to lower emissions of methane in the oil and gas sector – working together to protect the environment and create good jobs while strengthening Canada’s energy sector. Details: pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-r…

@LeeHarris This nonsense has been going on for years in the Canadian Parliament. It’s outrageous and completely disrespectful to the electorate. Answer the f’ing question!!

There is no ‘global price for gas’. How can you be an energy expert and not know that?

Why wind power isn't “woke”, my piece in today's @spectator. The North Sea matters but won’t cut bills - we pay the global price for gas. Fracking is unpopular and wouldn’t change that. SMRs are promising but distant. Wind is the practical, affordable option to build right now. spectator.com/article/wind-p…

@bawsolutions @BBCWorld I'm afraid you're in for continued disappointment then, 'cos these 🤡 's can't resist an opportunity to deflect from real pressing issues. I feel sorry for the families that are being dragged into this politised 💩 show.

@RoryMaw @mattwridley @RenewableUKCEO @spectator Nat gas is a local commodity, LNG is an international commodity, big difference. If you’ve got it in your own backyard you’re a foolish not to use it!!
English

There. Is. No. Global. Price. For. Gas.
How often do you need to be told this? What’s the Henry Hub price today? What’s the UK price today? Are they the same … or even close?
Let me tell you, for April 2026 contracts.
Henry Hub, right now: $2.87/MMBtu
UK NBP right now: $16.79/MMBtu
So UK prices are 5.8x US prices. I don’t like calling people liars but you must know this, so what else is there to say?

@RoryMaw @mattwridley @RenewableUKCEO @spectator Current 🇨🇦price for gas, cheaper than anywhere else

@ExnerPirot But in 20 years time we’ll have perfected energy production from unicorn farts so it’ll all be fine!
English

The stakes with the MOU and the carbon price and the pipeline are actually enormous:
- Canada is the biggest crude oil exporter amongst all IEA members (and 3rd in the world behind Saudis and Russians)
- Of the other big IEA producers, US and Norway oil production is peaking and Mexico is in a long decline
- Canada is unique in being able to produce at this pace for well over a century and meaningfully grow production
- Imagine this crisis in 10 or 20 years when middle eastern and OPEC+ market share will be much higher
- It is imperative that Canada be able to grow production and get more access to tidewater to supply allies beyond USA

English

@business so much for the getting ourselves off the dependence on US markets strategy then!!🤡🤡

Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson pitched increasing natural gas flows to the US, aimed at boosting LNG exports from the Gulf Coast and meeting rising power demand from AI data centers bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
English

@ExnerPirot @scampycaaz Surprise surprise!! Why did anyone believe things would change? Carney and Hodgson are not serious
English

Overheard:
“Canadian Industry is unleashed! But only with a giant millstone around its neck.”
These guys don’t have confidence yet that Hodgson and Carney will deliver the conditions they need to invest mega dollars.
CEOs have been emboldened to say that in their investor calls and interviews and speeches. cf. Enbridge, TC Energy, CNRL
English

“Canada is approaching energy policy with renewed ambition, pragmatism and urgency.”
I want to believe every word of this but the fact is proponents/investors are in a holding pattern until they get clarity on the industrial carbon price, methane regs and Clean Electricity Regs.

@Reil76 @Martyupnorth Ab currently spends $7k/annum per capita on healthcare, imagine how much insurance John could buy for his $28k. Time for a major overhaul of healthcare, it's not working as is.

@Martyupnorth Until you have no free healthcare, and John has a heart attack and it costs him $100k

Meet the Carters, a fictitious family from Red Deer.
John earns $93,000/year working for one of the local oilfield service companies. His wife, April, stays home to look after their 2 kids. They live in a modes house they bought 6 years ago, that's now worth $380,000.
John just finished doing his taxes.
He owes
Ottawa: $15,457
Edmonton: $4,530
Red Deer: $3,761 ($2,799 to the city, rest for schools)
The government he gets the least services from, is the one he pays the most taxes to.
His take home is $69,252.
After his mortgage, groceries, fuel and insurance, his discretionary income is less than $10,000.
John knows that an independent Alberta will leave him with at least $8,000 more in his pocket every year. An independent Alberta will also be good for his employer.

@ExnerPirot 🇨🇦 biggest potential customer in Asia is India. They don't give a rat's about how ethical our oil is, they care about price and availability. See how they went running back to Putin once Trump lifted sanctions on 🇷🇺 oil. No one cares about Carbon Capture @MarkJCarney.
English

Tying the financially riskiest egress solution, a $30B northwest coast oil pipeline Northern Gateway 2.0, to a $20B carbon project and ‘strengthened’ carbon pricing, and then tying new trade alliances in Asia to it, was not ideal in retrospect.
The obvious industry response to capture the real demand for increased Canadian oil production became to focus on optimizations and KXL 2.0 (USA).
So who wants the NW pipeline to Asian markets the most at this point?
English

The crux of the problem in one article: Carney has done a good job going abroad and drumming up Asian interest in Canadian O&G and pipelines
But the conditions to invest and produce are thus far unacceptable to O&G companies in Canada
