Former President Barack Obama called on Americans to “step up” like Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. during a celebration of life honoring the late civil rights leader on Friday. "We are living in a time when it can be hard to hope," Obama said during his speech in front of thousands in attendance at House of Hope church in Chicago with thousands in attendance. "Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions." "But this man, Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, inspires us to take a harder path," Obama added. “His voice calls on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope, to step forward and say, ‘Send me,' wherever we have a chance to make an impact.” Obama was one of three former Democratic U.S. presidents, along with Joe Biden and Bill Clinton, who attended the service. Former Vice President Kamala Harris also attended. Jackson died in February at age 84.

.@jamestalarico is a rare political talent in the Democratic Party, a strong communicator who seems to have the ability to reach centrist and working-class voters and expand the tent. The Texas Senate race this year will be riveting.

In certain circles, Democrats seem confident that you have to fight fire with fire to beat MAGA: be a strident jerk, all caps tweeting, get angry, etc. Seems worth pointing out that two rising stars of the last 12 months, Mamdani and Talarico, both seem really nice.
