One of those Black assistants who had the resume but never got the promotion. Arguably his repeated failure to get that call-up helped to spur the Rooney Rule.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sherman Lewis. Lewis, a first-team All-American in 1963, served as an assistant coach at MSU before a decorated NFL coaching career that included four Super Bowl titles. We send our deepest condolences to the Lewis family.

They’re doing the same thing to sports they did to music education. Many of the greatest musicians to ever live first touched an instrument at SCHOOL. That became an opportunity for the poor to move up socioeconomically. Especially Black kids. Same can be said for what And1 league was. Cities taking hoops out of neighborhoods, creating private schools to recruit from, etc. All of it is to control the opportunities for poor kids and kids of color to get educations or access to wealth. It’s that deep.

NEW: Youth sports is now costing parents as much as $25,000 a year. Private equity and corporations are turning a childhood pastime into something only the wealthy can afford. Youth sports has become a $40 billion industry, and the steep costs are crushing American families.

🚨 🇺🇸MAJOR BREAKING: They are marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge again. 61 years after Bloody Sunday. The same bridge. The same fight. Today in Selma, thousands are gathering at the spot where Alabama state troopers beat peaceful Black marchers in March 1965. That beating shocked the country into passing the Voting Rights Act five months later. This week the Supreme Court finished gutting it. (video: ib2_real)

Never forget. In 1953, They drained an entire swimming pool because Dorothy Dandridge stuck her toe in it." Racism and segregation kept many African Americans from learning to swim-a fact we can't forget while celebrating Simone Manuel's historic Olympic gold medal.
