Percentages still matter over raw numbers. Just compare Baltimore, Memphis, Detroit, New Orleans, Birmingham and even Newark to LA and you will feel the difference. All of those cities I mentioned are culturally Black American. LA is not…

Like there is a difference in going to the gym and seeing all Black ppl in a neighborhood full of Black owned restaurants playing black music than living in a city where you have to legit look for a Black community. LA ain’t Chicago or Detroit or Atlanta idc the population

@mama_mia_09 Yeah. Having grown up in a city that had a million ppl and was around 80% Black. (Detroit) I can say that’s a huge difference than being in city where Black ppl are the minority. Percentage is def more key.

I’ve been begging for this book to be filmed but I will not be watching it. One of the biggest strains Amari faces within her family is that she’s the darkest. Her mum actively shames her for it too. Her brother is much lighter. Therefore the casting doesn’t make sense.
