Dr. Medard Twinamatsiko, Director of the Centre for Innovations and Technology Transfer (CITT) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, has called for stronger collaboration between universities and industry, noting that such partnerships are critical to building a functional innovation ecosystem that responds to real-world challenges. He made the remarks while presenting at the 7th Annual Higher Education Conference. He observed that although universities are central to driving innovation, collaboration with industry remains limited, with both sides often operating independently. He noted that this disconnect, coupled with mistrust and fears around intellectual property, has slowed progress, as some young innovators worry that industry players may dominate university-led innovations. Dr. Twinamatsiko explained that inadequate financing mechanisms and limited incentives have further discouraged industry participation in university programmes, yet stressed that such partnerships are critical for enhancing the relevance of research, accelerating technology transfer, promoting knowledge exchange, and supporting joint innovation initiatives, including internships and student placements. He cited emerging collaborations such as those involving Makerere University and Kiira Motors Corporation as examples of what can be achieved when academia and industry align. To address existing barriers, he proposed practical models such as the Open Innovation Community Model, which encourages structured engagement between universities and industry through platforms like barazas, aimed at building trust, improving communication, and fostering sustainable collaboration for Uganda’s economic transformation. #NCHE7thHEC2026

🚨Arsenal have offered Everton £100m and Bukayo Saka for Iliman Ndiaye. Everton countered the offer and told Arsenal they will only accept £100m for Ndiaye.

However, the situation is quite different along the Kampala–Fort Portal Road via Mubende. Despite increasing traffic to destinations like Fort Portal and surrounding tourism attractions, this route is gradually becoming less appealing for stopovers. For a long time, Mubende has been the main stopping point. But recently, the experience has declined the food quality is no longer consistent, and even simple options like chicken no longer taste the same. This has made it increasingly difficult for tour operators to identify a reliable and satisfying place to stop with their clients. There is a clear opportunity here. Imagine a well-designed “Africa Village” stopover in Mubende: a modern petrol station, clean and well-maintained washrooms, a quality coffee point showcasing Ugandan coffee, and a restaurant offering consistent, well-prepared meals. Add a touch of culture, ambiance, and efficient service, and it becomes more than just a stop it becomes part of the journey. Such an investment would not only transform the travel experience along this route but also support the growing tourism traffic heading to western Uganda. @eddykenzoficial @TourismBoardUg @wekesa_amos @opigojimmy @Ssenyonyiderick

📈 Uganda-bound cargo through the Port of Mombasa is on the rise with a 25% increase in volumes last year proving the region’s largest maritime gateway is delivering greater efficiency. Today, leadership from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) including Chairman Mr. Katongole Emmanuel and Commissioner General Mr. John Musinguzi visited the port where they reinforced the importance of the facility not only a transit hub but also the primary artery for Uganda’s trade. With 10.91 million metric tons handled for Uganda in 2025 up from 8.70 million metric tons in 2024 , Uganda remains the largest transit market for the port. Discussions with KPA focused on collaboration, cargo safety, and timely delivery. URA leaders also highlighted the need for expansion programs to keep pace with growing regional demand. Thanks to joint efforts between KPA and partner agencies, streamlined operations are already helping lower costs for Ugandan importers and consumers. As KPA’s GM Cargo Operations Dr. Sudi Mwasinago noted, Uganda is one of the port’s biggest users and this continued partnership is about more than infrastructure, it’s about strengthening trade stability across East Africa. @URAuganda

🚨Paul Scholes on Declan Rice: “I don’t see him as a world-class player. He’ll only be remembered for those two free kicks against Real Madrid. Since then, he hasn’t done anything particularly special. He lacks big-game impact and mostly just runs up and down the pitch.”

Hello @Akeda4 That Benz you see there, I’ve been using it at the farm since the day I bought it. There are no traffic police on our ranch, and there aren’t any traffic offenses either. It’s just that my cows used the number plate as a surface to relieve their itch, and they ended up scratching it off.

Dear @ChrisOMagezi, Is the military operation to restore order on the road including apprehending vehicles without registration plates still on? We still have a couple of them on the road in Namugongo and I see some people who can help you trace others still at large. Thank you.

@nilepostnews @UCC_Official this directive is not clear! If you tell telecom companies to reduce duplication, which one among them are you directing, just say and guide that you require only one pole oer area or take charge of all the poles in Uganda and make them pay you to mange the poles

Anthropic made $6 billion in revenue in a single month of February!!! I will always say this, farming will never make this country rich, technology and only technology has powers to do so. And Ugandan Startup founders, stop building things for Uganda and African market, build things for the world market, if you target USA, UK, Canada etc the better but whatever you build, target people with disposable income. That's why every country however big it is and having many citizens like china, India, they always fight to the last drop to be able to sell to USA. Ugandan market is very small for tech business, you might not compete with silicone valley investment but you have an advantage of cost of production. You will need a very big advertising budget just to break through in Africa than you will need to breakthrough outside Africa.
