The inspection and registration of water vessels is now actively underway at the 5 Operational Search and Rescue (SAR) Centres across Uganda’s waters. Unlike before, these services are now closer to users, with fully operational SAR centres strategically established across major water bodies—making it easier, faster, and more convenient for vessel owners to access inspection, licensing, and safety support services. These centres are part of a nationwide maritime safety system designed to improve emergency response, reduce accidents, and promote compliance. @GenWamala, the Minister of @MoWT_Uganda , has this morning witnessed the signing of an MOU between the @GovUganda represented by the @MoWT_Uganda Permanent Secretary @mr_bageya and MS Orascom Construction Company from Egypt. The MOU is to allow the company to undertake an 18-month feasibility study for a possible Light Rail Transit (LRT)/Monorail system in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. On behalf of @GovUganda, I signed an MoU with Tanzania to jointly develop the Isaka–Lusahunga–Murongo/Kikagati–Mpondwe SGR, a key step toward stronger regional connectivity. The SGR project will cut transport costs, boost trade, and improve cargo movement across East Africa.

🛣UPDATE ON THE KASINDI(BORDER)-BENI (80KM) ROAD & BENI-BUTEMBO AXIS (54KM) ROAD. 🛣 The Uganda/Democratic Republic of Congo Roads Project Upgrade is beginning to pay off. During an inspection by the steering committee members, technical officers from @MoWT_Uganda and its equivalent from @MinITP_RDC, the contractor and consultant, it has been noted that in spite of the security challenges, the project is progressing on the above sections: 📍The Kasindi-Beni Axis will start receiving asphalt by June 2026. 📍Travel time from Kasindi to Beni has reduced to under 2 hours from the previous 3/ 4 hours. It is expected to reduce further after applying bitumen. 📍According to Governor Evariste Somo of Beni, due to the improvement in the road condition, the traffic has tripled. 📍Business between the two countries has increased. Given Uganda's positioning as hub within the region along of traffic is flowing through it to Eastern part of Congo. This entire project is part of the answer to @GovUganda journey to hit the GDP of US£ 500 billion by 2040 through the tenfold growth strategy by leveraging the country's central continental location for its transformation into a competitive investment, trade and tourism centre in Africa, starting with the EAC. Today, I officially handed over the Kyenyonga–Kikaada Hybrid Trail Bridge to the Bwanswa & Kasambya sub counties in Kakumiro. The trail bridge will support farmers to access markets, reduce post-harvest losses, and connect rural households to essential services.

@HonByamukama, the Minister of State for Transport, has officially commissioned Uganda’s 44th trail bridge. The 68-metre hybrid trail bridge, located in , will provide safe and reliable passage for an estimated 400 community members every day — improving connectivity, access to services, and local livelihoods. @fikaorg

Today we delivered on H.E. ’s commitment to improve connectivity and unlock regional economies with the commissioning of the MV BKK Ferries. Linking Busoga, Teso & Lango, the ferries will cut travel time, enhance safety on Lake Kyoga & significantly boost trade and livelihoods.

The BKK ferry project is set to transform transport across Buyende, Kaberamaido & Serere! Key Highlights: Ferries: 2 modern vessels, 310 passengers each, with crew facilities, washrooms, cafeterias & accessibility features. MV BKK 1 ready; MV BKK 2 expected March 2026. Landing Sites: Bukungu, Akampala & Kagwara, with jetties & passenger amenities. 2 operational; 3rd to be ready by Feb 2026. Dredging Equipment: Operational since 2023, keeping waterways safe. Staff: 46 trained for operations & maintenance. Impact: Safer transport, improved trade & tourism, and better access to social services. #TransportUg

Today, we are commissioning the two BKK Ferries — MV BKK 1 & 2 — under the BKK Ferry Project. We are expecting the Chief Guest, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda, representing H.E. The Northern Corridor Public Private Partnership Committee (PPPC) is composed of both the public and private sector stakeholders dealing with matters of Trade and Transport along the Northern Corridor.

Today, the Permanent Secretary @mr_bageya officiated at the opening of the 10th Northern Corridor Public Private Partnership meeting. He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to improving this critical regional trade route that links the Port of Mombasa to Uganda and the wider region. The PS highlighted key investments including multimodal logistics hubs, expanded One Stop Border Posts, and the Bukasa trimodal port—all aimed at streamlining clearance, reducing transport costs, and boosting regional trade. @TradeMarkAfrica

The Assistant Commissioner for Drainage Structures, representing the Permanent Secretary @mr_bageya, has officially launched construction works for the Nyahuka–Mirambi Bridge in Bundibugyo District! Joined by the area MP, RDC, LC5, CAO, and LC3, the event marked a major turning point for a community that has endured years of difficult and dangerous access. Every school day, over 1,800 school children brave the river to get to school. Communities rely on crossing it to reach the Health Center IV, and tragically, many lives have been lost. This bridge is not just infrastructure — it is a lifeline. #ConnectingRuralUg @jerosokullu
