Today I spoke with President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon @LBpresidency. We discussed the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, and its grave consequences for the Lebanese people. Hezbollah must immediately cease all its activities and disarm, and Israel must prevent any further escalation of the conflict. All parties must comply with international law. I emphasised the importance of de-escalation and direct diplomacy between Lebanon and Israel, which could help achieve a lasting resolution to this conflict. The Netherlands supports the Lebanese government’s efforts to restore full control over the country’s territory. To that end, I announced that the Netherlands will provide €13.5 million in humanitarian aid and support for the Lebanese armed forces.
