Too many smart meters are broken. After we've all, collectively, spent over £10bn on them, it isn't good enough. I sent this open letter to @Ed_Miliband the new Secretary of State for energy today...

@BimBamBoozles @MartinSLewis @Ed_Miliband @eon_next I had @OctopusEnergy come out and replace mine because they had a notification on their system from @eonenergyuk stating that my smart meter needed changing “even if it still worked” which suggested to me that they’re a widespread problem with e.on smart meters

@MartinSLewis @Ed_Miliband Moved into a new house last year, both of my smart meters don't work, they don't send any data to e.on and I can't see it in my app. @eon_next refuse to come and fix it despite me asking on so many occasions. Luckily I have reminders in my phone to send the readings.

@jongaunt @Morrisons And people can go at their own pace, and it’s 1 staff for 8-10 self checks. More supermarkets need to look at the smaller details that Aldi does to increase sales and satisfaction, and efficiency.

@jongaunt @Morrisons Morrison’s self checkouts are probably the worst for technical issues, in my experience and opinion. I think Aldi has got a win-win situation, people don’t like the fast pace of a staffed till, so they use the self-check. Barcodes are much bigger which means less aggravation..1/2

Self checkouts need to be scrapped. Nobody wants them and they’re impersonal and not much quicker. Good to see @Morrisons realising this. I’ve never met anyone who prefers them and I’ve worked in supermarket. What’s your view?
