No! Islam’s goal is not to create heaven on earth. Heaven will always be heaven. And earth will never compare. Utopianism is foreign to the islamic teachings. And no matter how many Muslims claim it, Zakat will not eradicate poverty. Nor is that the goal of Zakat. Zakat provides “relief” for the needy. And since every Muslim’s Zakat payment date and amount differ, there are guaranteed to be times when poor people don’t receive anything. And when one also considers the fact that Muslims are not required to save in order to pay Zakat, there is no guarantee they will hold an annual surplus obligating them to pay Zakat. Zakat is paid on savings, not income.
