emDocs (@emdocsdotnet) is bringing #FOAMed to Roon! emDocs is a leading resource for the rapidly developing field of emergency medicine. But the #MedEd landscape has changed. #MedTwitter isn’t what it used to be, and while useful for summarizing guidelines, LLMs can’t replace the human collaboration that is critical to move medicine forward. This is why we are excited to announce that emDocs is now on Roon. emDocs will be sparking debate and conversation about the DOCs (developments, oddities, and controversies) in emergency medicine. This week, emDocs is hosting a discussion on the ARISE FLUIDS study on Roon featuring Drs. Brit Long and Manpreet Singh. Look forward to seeing the Emergency Medicine community grow on Roon! @long_brit @GitaPensaMD @SonoSpot @DrRobertGlatter @JimMiner1 @aviccellio @KimiChernoby @ArleneSujin @FionaGallahueMD, @GillianMD1 @NagdevArun @EMNerd_ @DrChrisBaugh @darakass @ddebehnk

I'll also pile on to the positive comments about Roon.com, the new social media network focused on medicine. It's been a great place to discuss new data and healthcare policy. Reminds me of the old MedTwitter.

@CardioNerds has changed the way many clinicians learn cardiology. What started as a podcast has grown into one of the most respected educational communities in cardiovascular medicine, built around curiosity, mentorship, and a belief that great medical education should be accessible to everyone. When we first met the CardioNerds team, it became clear that we share that philosophy. We both believe the best learning happens when clinicians openly ask questions, share experiences, and challenge each other's thinking. That's why we're so excited to welcome @CardioNerds to Roon! Their team has built something truly special, and we can't wait to see the conversations, teaching, and community they bring to Roon. Join them here: roon.com/doctors/p/Card…

Today, we're excited to welcome the American Society of Breast Surgeons (@ASBrS) to Roon! 🎉 For decades, the American Society of Breast Surgeons has helped define what excellent breast care looks like, advancing the field through education, research, and clinical leadership. Along the way, it has helped surgeons navigate some of the specialty's biggest questions, from personalizing treatment and integrating new technologies to improving outcomes while preserving quality of life. Breast surgery sits at the intersection of many disciplines. Decisions are informed by imaging, pathology, genetics, medical oncology, radiation oncology, reconstruction, survivorship, and more. Few organizations have done more than ASBrS to bring those perspectives together and help translate new evidence into better patient care. By joining Roon, ASBrS is bringing that spirit of collaboration into a digital space where breast surgeons can continue learning from one another between meetings, discuss emerging research, share clinical insights, and connect around the challenges and opportunities shaping the field today. We're honored to support a community that has spent decades building the standards, relationships, and shared knowledge that make better care possible. Welcome, ASBrS! And join them on Roon: roon.com/doctors/p/asbr…

Every physician can point to a paper that changed the way they practice. A study that challenged conventional wisdom. A trial that changed treatment. A guideline that reshaped conversations with patients. For generations of cardiologists, many of those moments have come from American Heart Association Journals. The journals of the American Heart Association have published some of the most important research in cardiovascular medicine, helping define how heart disease and stroke are prevented, diagnosed, and treated around the world. Today, we're excited to welcome the American Heart Association Journals to Roon. Research doesn't end when it's published. That's where its real-world impact begins. We're proud to help create a place where the evidence, the questions it raises, and the clinicians applying it every day can all come together. Leading public health during a crisis takes a real toll. When Dr. Ashwin Vasan (@ashvasnyc) stepped in as NYC Health Commissioner, pent-up pandemic frustrations were boiling over—leading to protests outside his family’s home. In our latest episode, he opens up about the weight of that moment, asking himself if the job was worth it, and the simple observation from his 9-year-old daughter that kept him from walking away. Listen to the full conversation on Good Medicine where you get your podcasts, and share your perspective on Roon: roon.com/doctors/posts/…

Rheumatologists spend much of their time solving problems that don't fit neatly into one specialty. Autoimmune disease doesn't respect organ systems, and neither do the conversations that help physicians care for these patients. Whether it's discussing an atypical presentation, comparing treatment strategies, interpreting new evidence, or managing increasingly complex therapies, some of the most valuable learning happens between colleagues. Today, we're excited to launch the Rheumatology community on Roon with founding physicians Amanda Nelson, Simon Helfgott, Paul Sufka (@psufka), Alfred Kim (@alhkim), Anisha Dua (@anisha_dua), Eleni Tiniakou (@EleniTiniakou), Nilasha Ghosh (@NilashaGhosh), and Sara Tedeschi (@SaraKTedeschi). On Roon, rheumatologists can exchange ideas, discuss challenging cases, and stay connected with peers across the country in a physician-only community. If you're in rheumatology, we'd love to have you join: roon.com/doctors?utm_ca…

Before he led public health for NYC, Dr. Ashwin Vasan (@ashvasnyc) traveled by horseback and prop plane to deliver life-saving HIV medications to remote clinics in Uganda, Rwanda, and Lesotho. In the latest Good Medicine episode, he reflects on healing the "moral injury" of local healthcare workers who previously had no tools to save their patients. He also shares a defining lesson from his mentors, global health pioneers Dr. Paul Farmer and Dr. Jim Yong Kim: if you can deliver complex medical care in the hardest-to-reach places, you create a moral imperative to do it everywhere. 4/ What makes the Bundibugyo strain different from other outbreaks? 🧬 Dr. Paul Blair: At the nucleotide level #Bundibugyo differs from the Zaire (previous Ebola variant) strains by roughly 30% and that variability is within the glycoprotein, the protein on the surface of the virus. That matters because glycoprotein is exactly what our vaccines and antibody therapies are built to recognize. Immunity or treatment developed against the Zaire glycoprotein doesn't necessarily carry over to Bundibugyo. For scale, that level of variability rivals Hep C, one of the most variable human viruses and a notoriously hard vaccine target. Genomic diversity across Ebola strains runs around 30%, comparable to Hep C, which is part of why a single vaccine is so hard. Clinically the presentations of both variants of Ebola are similar: nonspecific febrile illness, then a GI and diarrheal phase, then for some the hemorrhagic phase, over a course that runs weeks. 1/ What should you know about #Ebola? A Q&A thread with Dr. Paul Blair 🧵 👇 For many physicians in the U.S., the Ebola outbreak raises questions about transmissibility, diagnostics, vaccines, and management. This is why we’re honored to have sat down with Dr. Paul Blair to walk us through the evidence and common questions surrounding the outbreak. Dr. Blair's research focuses on identifying solutions to diagnose and appropriately treat severe and emerging infectious diseases in remote settings. His lab studies the clinical course and treatment of Ebola and other viral hemorrhagic fevers. To improve care of emerging infections, many of which can be missed, his lab evaluates point-of-care diagnostic tools, with current projects spanning the U.S., Uganda, and Peru. Follow this thread for our Q&A with Dr. Paul Blair on Ebola (Note: Interview edited for brevity)

New Good Medicine with Dr. Ashwin Vasan (@ashvasnyc) - the 44th NYC Health Commissioner What happens when you bring lessons from fighting HIV/AIDS in rural Uganda to the NYC health department? Here is what was discussed: 🔹 Life expectancy as a public health North Star 🔹The cost of inaction in youth mental health 🔹Medicine’s blind spot on nutrition This is a powerful conversation on leadership, politics, and showing up when the work gets hard. If you're a physician, join the conversation on Roon, or watch the full episode where you get your podcasts, links in comments.
