@MikeReiss @TheJoeyMcNeely @MattyNitro Mike, seems they plan to rely on mostly rookies to fill the remaining depth spots. Do you think there will be a vet signing or two will before the draft? Thanks

@TheJoeyMcNeely @MattyNitro Hi Will Campbell Franchise LG. I think that is a fair point ... Gilliam was signed to be the guy. So it challenges Jack Westover's hold on a roster spot in the FB2/TE3 realm (assuming good health for all).

Opinion/analysis: One way to assess the Patriots’ offseason moves is from an “in/out” perspective … and here is a snapshot through that lens.

@Trombino20 They need to fill some of the depth holes with veterans. Okereke would be great.

The #Patriots have yet to retain any of their own free agents: Chaisson (Commanders), Tonga (Chiefs), Hawkins (Ravens), Lowe (49ers), Hooper (Falcons), Austin (Dolphins), Gibbens (Cardinals). Could be clearing the decks for draft picks at EDGE, TE, OT, LB, S?

New at BSJ: Bedard: Patriots accomplished a lot in free agency, can they do more, including A.J. Brown? dlvr.it/TRWShL

If the #Colts #Eagles or #Patriots aren’t opening discussions with at least a 2nd to start, I am not even picking up the phone 📞 about trading Jonathan Greenard if I am the #Vikings 28 years old in his prime, and in the Top 7 in the NFL for Edge rushers in pressure rate.😎

The #Patriots’ inability to make upgrades at pass-rusher has been equally infuriating as it has been confusing. It’s now officially draft season, so the early plan is:

@GregABedard Seems to be more blocking TEs available than young EDGE guys with starting experience and who are ascending players.

@ropese34 A blocking TE was a very real need you can’t find in the draft. The draft is deep at edge. Can’t buy everything. And they think their scheme solves a lot

No official numbers yet on Doubs, Byard and Hill, but estimating the first-year cash for them, Patriots have about $800,000 left on the initial $60 million cash budget I estimated for them this offseason. To go further, I think they're going to have to offset (Barmore, Onwenu) and/or RKK will have to reach into this pocket.

@GregABedard I understand you can’t and that this upcoming draft is deep at edge yes but you are looking to replace one of your starting EDGEs and telegraphing the need.

@MJRodnick Why prioritize a blocking TE or TE2 and at the money they did over one of the last few remaining EDGE guys with starting experience and upside?

@GregABedard Greg, I don’t understand why, after showing interest in Edge Ebiketie, they decided to prioritize a blocking TE or even a TE2 at the money they did, over improving their pass rush and attempting to replace Chaisson.

@ZachGatsby I guess I don’t understand if they showed interest, why they decided to prioritize the blocking TE and at the money they did, over an edge / pass rusher after they lost Chaisson.

@ByMarkDaniels They need more than one, Mark and especially after losing or letting Chaisson sign elsewhere.

The Patriots best path to add another edge rusher is through the draft. They’ll be in position to get a solid player next month.
Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter

Former Falcons free-agent LB Arnold Ebiketie is signing a one-year, $7.3 million max deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, including $4.3 million fully guaranteed, per Damarius Bilbo of @KlutchSports. Ebiketie had eight sacks the past two seasons, and the Eagles are hoping for more of the same.

Actually, they might have some more. Forgot about an outgoing guy like Anferee Jennings (included Diggs and Tavai).
