The most influential institution in modern investing isn't Harvard Business School It's a think tank 3 hours from Roswell Where Bill Miller (Managed $70B), Nick Sleep (20.8% CAGR) and Michael Mauboussin learned complex systems science. 7 lessons from the Santa Fe Institute: 🧵

Berkshire Hathaway released its 2nd quarter 10-Q and operating earnings this morning. Despite little activity on the capital allocation front, Berkshire’s key businesses produced generally solid profitability, and FAR BETTER than is being generally reported. A brief summary: 1/5

Missing context - later in the paragraph, he said why: “If corporate investors, in aggregate, are going to eat an ever-growing portion of the American economic pie, some other group will have to settle for a smaller portion. That would justifiably raise political problems–and in my view a major reslicing of the pie just isn’t going to happen.”

We are excited to be partnering with @Google. Magic Leap CEO @rossrosenberg put it best, "We are excited to announce a strategic technology partnership with Google to bring Magic Leap Augmented Reality (AR) expertise and optics leadership together with Google’s technology platforms and collaborate on Extended Reality (XR) solutions and experiences. Today AR is leveraged by companies to train employees, create spatial consumer experiences, envision and design new buildings and augment medical teams with better ways to visualize patient care. But the transformative potential of AR is endless and this partnership will help to expand immersive experiences, bring more utility and broaden the reach of AR!" reuters.com/technology/goo… magicleap.com/newsroom/magic…

Attention EV Owners: 60% of the electricity you use to power your "green" vehicle is produced from fossil fuels (Coal + Natural Gas) and 79% is from Fossil Fuels + Nuclear. Less than 16% is from Windmills + Solar Panels. Prediction: Those fuel source shares to produce US electric power aren't going to change significantly going forward. It's a "Fossil Fuel World" and that will continue indefinitely due to fundamental economic and scientific realities.

I drove basically every EV in my price point and I’m very likely getting the Mustang GT over the BMW i4. Tesla is going to have a big problem on their hands. Basically every car is better, which is why they keep lowering prices.

@JRogrow Interest rates were higher in the late '90s than they are today and we had an epic stock bubble. And the bubble began in earnest around 1995, just as the Fed had finished jacking up rates after the early '90s recession. It's rarely simple!

Updated "Chart of the Century" with data through June 2023. Note: Since 2000, College Tuition increased 184% which is 2.4X greater than overall inflation of 76% & 1.7X greater than the 110% increase in average wages. No wonder there's $1.8T in student loan debt @stevenfhayward

$SIVB closure & receivership is going to have a massive impact on the tech ecosystem. SVB was not just a dominant player in tech but were highly integrated in some nontraditional ways. A few things we'll see in the coming days / weeks...

@Noahpinion You argue that that supply of college is not regulated, but the accreditation process overseen by the Dept of Edu is complex. Below argues DoE is asleep at the switch, but poor performance of regulatory oversight does not mean the regulations don't exist. americanprogress.org/article/the-un…
