Still very disappointed in the trip Commandment got. He should have been back there with Renegade and Golden Tempo. He got completely compromised being that close to the pace.

Yes, I watch the Kentucky Derby. I have watched it nearly every year since 1973. Two of the favorites everyone was talking about, Further Ado and Renegade, didn't have what the winner had. Can you guess what it is from looking at their pedigrees?

Those bemoaning the final time of the Derby... Y'all realize time only matters in jail, right? (yes I stole that from a favorite handicapper) ...the info is only useful for next starts & maybe future trends Better to just say you didn't have the horse and quit whining

@GodsZebra Golden Tempo had a stronger stamina pedigree, shown by a lower Dosage Index (1.93) and deeper classic influences suggesting he’d finish the 10 furlongs. Further Ado and Renegade had higher-DI, more speed-oriented pedigrees—more brilliance, but less stamina on paper.

@GodsZebra Not too sure the pedigree factor means a lot when you get slammed in the beginning of the race and lose by a short head

@rothstein_jason I'm not too worried about distance for Crude Velocity. He had to go after Englishman in the Pat Day Mile, but I think he can throttle it down slightly. But again, I don't know for sure who I'll bet on until I see the final field.

So who's your early Preakness Stakes pick? Will Baffert overwhelm the field with Crude Velocity and his speed? It's early and I'll still need to see the final draw, but this horse is reminiscent of Baffert's past superstars.
