Recently I made comments voicing my frustration with certain elements of our education system. These comments were made in the days after what many felt was inappropriate content was shared at local high schools, without proper notification to parents. In addition to parents, I was also contacted by a number of teachers who shared they felt unable to speak about their own concerns, due to a real or perceived understanding that this might hurt them professionally. Honestly, I do have some frustration with the system. As I said in the original interview, I do have concerns, just like many parents and teachers across the province, and I think speaking out about them is important. But concerns can be addressed with parents, educators and government working together. Our government is committed to improving our education system in both official languages. And we recently announced a ban on cell phones in class that will help reduce distractions in the classroom. These concerns are not directed specifically at teachers. The vast majority of teachers across the province work hard, and go above and beyond to help give students the best possible experience in school. To those teachers I want to say a sincere thank you. I hope you are able to enjoy a well-deserved rest this summer, and please know the investment you are making in the future leaders of our province is greatly appreciated.
