Lewis will climb Mount Kenya this week to swim in a glacial lake at 4850m. Scientists say that the ancient glaciers on the mountain have between 3 to 5 years before they disappear. “People know that glaciers are melting, but they don’t understand the speed of what is happening.” Find out more 👇 lewispughfoundation.org/campaign/mount… #LewisGlacierSwim #UNEA7

Efforts are underway in Geneva to finalize a global #PlasticsTreaty, as @UNEP warns that plastic waste could triple by 2060 without urgent action. The talks aim to produce a legally binding treaty addressing threats to health, oceans & economies. unep.org/inc-plastic-po…

Sharks are essential for marine biodiversity. Here’s how: 🦈 They regulate fish populations 🐟 They prevent prey species from overgrazing habitats 🌿 They protect coral reefs and seagrass beds 🌊 They keep marine food webs in balance Happy #BiodiversityDay! #TheSharkSwim

This year is the 50th anniversary of Jaws. I’m marking it by swimming around Martha’s Vineyard to show what sharks really are: essential, endangered, and in urgent need of protection. Thank you @ABC for the video 🌊🎥⬇️ #TheSharkSwim abcnews.go.com/US/video/man-t…

Yesterday, I rounded the southeastern tip of Martha’s Vineyard. The waves were very choppy, and I ended up swallowing more seawater than I’d like. The upside of strong currents, though, is they make for fast swimming! 🌊🏊♂️ #TheSharkSwim

Hollywood made them villains. I’m here to set the record straight 🦈👇🎥 #TheSharkSwim has begun.

As the one and only @LewisPugh starts his #TheSharkSwim, you may be surprised to know that annually 100 million sharks are killed globally for their meat, oil, cartilage, fins and for sport. Sharks are key indicators of ocean health and their decline a great source of concern.

🏊♂️ BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🏊♂️ Today, I will begin a swim around the island where Jaws was filmed. When it hit screens 50 years ago, the movie shaped how the world saw sharks. It’s time to rewrite that story. Because the most frightening thing about sharks isn’t their presence, it’s what happens to our oceans without them 🌊🦈 #TheSharkSwim
