@RefractiveENT :) The idea of a low friction/mental burden ARPG really sounds great and I'm a bit fried on metroidvanias lately so I'll be sure to give it a try come Early Access.

@favoga_ Yes, except the obligatory sewer section. Only bad JRPGs have good sewer sections.

@MrAwolf I miss this. Blowing wind and snow are miserable to stand in, but alongside a full moon no sort of weather feels more epic with a full beard.

@lotfgame If it's funny it should stay, just make sure it's not too easy to trigger and that it doesn't hard or soft lock players.

@Dearme2_ I left the room. It was a good room. Computer desk, two closets, mini fridge, SNES in the corner. Just leaving for long enough to get outside and out of my own head left me the possibility of not failing and it turns out not failing for long enough is the same as succeeding.

If Warner Bros. had to be sold then I'm glad Paramount won over Netflix, but I wish they hadn't been and Paramount had acquired Lionsgate instead. Paramount+WBD is bad for competition, WBD+NetFlix is worse in the current market and NetFlix losing is far better for theaters.

@Kanekrii @SamHain31st It has the worst maps of any 3D game I've ever played with most levels consisting almost exclusively of long, nondescript hallways. Good bosses, combat, and music, but any backtracking is actively painful on account of the above.

Which one of these games translated Castlevania formula into 3D well? (Including the Resurrection demo)

@inkfycreates It's made by the Blasphemous devs, I'd be very surprised if it's NOT good given how well their prior games stood out in a crowded genre (Metroidvanias+Soulslikes).

@TheNCSmaster Smaller, simpler games that don't require a ton of effort to learn the systems or a big monetary investment to keep up are going to be necessary if the industry doesn't want to rely on an aging cadre of gamers who grew up alongside the 2600/C64 through PS1/Win95 eras.

It's that time of year again where I get to discover the name of some random player from the 60s to 80s who deserves the HoF nod less than Darren Woodson when they're voted in over him.

@RefractiveENT Need to give it another run through or two first. The one I did was decent, though mining was a bit awkward and I haven't tried fishing yet.

@SneedTech The auto-unlock part specifically sounds like a decent trade-off. It should also make the secondhand device market a bit easier to navigate.

@muscleforlife While I normally like your takes a lot none of the big power lifts are necessary to become stronger and they are all much more likely to result in injury if your technique isn't good. Being able to fail safely is a big part of testing your limits and DBs or cables provide that.

@evleaks I'm dropping all micro transactions that don't actually save me meaningful amounts of time, which is virtually all of them. Also limiting the hours during which I allow myself to doomscroll about geopolitical events.

Anyone care to share any phone-related new year's resolutions that they're making? Like, "I'm gonna reduce my screen time in 2026," or "I'm not gonna give Samsung/Apple anymore money to sell me the same phone year after year." Whaddaya got?

@MuseumCommodore Bejeweled. It basically made PopCap, inspired or predicted the direction of Facebook and mobile phone games for the next 15 years, and barely gets a mention. Along the same lines - Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. There's a ton of games like it now and were none then.
