Yesterday was my last in uniform after 30+ years. From Sarajevo to Belfast, Basra, Helmand, Baghdad, Mosul and Raqqah to name a few. It’s been a privilege to play a small part in major global events over the years & to lead fantastic people. Thanks to everyone & good luck

On this day in 1982, Lt Col H Jones VC was killed charging an Argentine position at the battle for Goose Green during the Falklands War. It’s been eight years since I started writing publicly about my grandfather, much of which can be found in various corners of the internet.

Thinking tonight of Lt Col H Jones, killed in action today in 1982 while leading 2 PARA at the Battle of Goose Green, and all 18 members of the battalion group who lost their lives on 28/29 May. Awarded the Victoria Cross for valour. They shall grow not old.

How useful is a 40-year-old British helicopter being donated to Ukraine? The pilots flying these machines over the front lines weren't even born when they first saw enemy fire in the Falklands in the early 80's. @BBCJLandale @westnewsprod

@shashj @BriW74 The innovative spirit exists in units but the Army’s processes, structures & culture mean that there is relatively little scope. This bottom-up insurgent approach in Ukraine is the hallmark of dynamic wartime armies.
