@tonywmiller How much of that is a byproduct of the "training industry" that promotes 100s of dribble moves & ball dominant offensive play?
English

Watching a lot of high school basketball the last week, I noticed…
Players spend a lot of time trying to create their own advantages off the bounce. When you play against inferior defenders, it works. Against anyone else, the end result is often a turnover, a low percentage paint attempt or a pass to a teammate in a neutral position.
May I suggest some resources to help?
Create advantage basketball (high percentage shots or dominoes) via spacing or screening.
Learn to screen early in the possession then use pace to create more opportunities with @CoachFletchCSP: youtu.be/f-aCENaPl_I?is…
@CoachPatSkerry uses a lot of stagger screens to begin a possession to get players open: youtu.be/RpAvLcqsU4E?is…
Learn to use spacing via concepts with @coachcascio: youtu.be/l4PZaMYVBe8?is…
Cutting creates space and it also opens up possible scoring chances for the cutter. Learn how from @CoachTJohnson: youtu.be/5krxAGCgafI?is…
If you want to take your DDM up another level, @John_Leonzo is one of the best: youtu.be/GcgL-MkR240?is…
Create easier looks for your players. Be less stressed / frustrated on the bench! 😁

Just 5% shy of our goal for Spartan Week of Giving. First years are committed to meeting all challenges & already mature enough to know they need a team of supporters!

@dcoopbball While the move from the clip (NVA) was league, I am almost positive that none of the girls in the training clip are playing NBA or FIBA, so you just taught them a travel.
English

@tonywmiller I know coaches that do those type of things…often I have found that those teams do not start well because they expended too much energy/focus prior to the tip.
English

What about Replacing traditional pre-game lay-up lines with a 3v2 or 4v3 passing/finishing game.
▪️Traditional lines = Zero mental engagement, fake stimulus.
▪️Advantage warm-ups = Wakes up their brains, forces communication, mimics actual game context.
Practice how you want to play. Warm up how you want to play.

@HudsonDoug25 @GHSPurplePride @Jeff_Gibboney @RodgersChad @YolandaGoodpas2 Congrats on retirement. Now you have more time to walk/run W. Main St.

Looks like a thorn between 2 lovely roses. My last "Last Friday" of my teaching career at @GHSPurplePride I so appreciate these two ladies and everyone else at GHS and GCSC. Been truly blessed and I love ❤️ them all. @Jeff_Gibboney @RodgersChad @YolandaGoodpas2

@CoachCWUPikeWBB Coach, depending on what you have, I might have some interest. Long time HS BB coach from Indiana, who just retired from coaching. Might interested in staying involved in a remote-style capacity.
English

@tonywmiller Shots we work on in practice is the 1st priority. Shot that our offensive movement creates is the 2nd priority. Efficiency & shooting % is key too. Someone shooting 43% from 3 is going to get more shots & more freedom than someone shooting 16%.
English

@j_bake16 @RickSemmler Is HS BB for the enjoyment of the fans or for the players & coaches that participate? If I am going to a local HS game, I am hoping that the hometown team is successful. Fast pace basketball does not = fan enjoyment.
English

@rushmccolley25 @RickSemmler Completely fair and valid point. I think most fans find slow grinding possessions for 32 minutes a boring brand of basketball and watching teams take the air out of the ball for the last 3-4 minutes of a game isn’t enjoyable to watch either.
English

@j_bake16 @RickSemmler What if playing uptempo does not play to the strengths of your team? Why should a coach be forced to play fast (or faster) when that doe snot put his players/team in the best position to be successful?
English

@RickSemmler It’s not all about possessions over 35 seconds. A 35 second shot clock it will force coaches to play more in transition, install modern uptempo offense w quick hitters looking for shots earlier in a possession to avoid getting under 8 sec. Pace of play will increase.
English

@RealDerekHarper @Sycamore_Ball So is the shot clock for the good of the fans & sports reporters or for the good of the game & the coaches/players?
English

@Sycamore_Ball You didn’t cover some of the games we did lol
English

I may be one of the only young guys in opposition to a shot clock. We don’t need it in high school
WISH-TV News@WISHNews8
BREAKING: The proposal for a 35-second shot clock in Indiana high school basketball failed to pass. IHSAA commissioner Paul Neidig shares with WISH-TV his thoughts on the decision: "Tradition certainly carries a lot here in Indiana. Maybe more than other states."
English

Harrison got shot clocks when the new floor was installed a few years ago. It was lumped that into the cost & remodeling bid. The JV plays a few games in the Aux gym, so that would have to have shot clocks too. Shot clocks will come in the next 5 years. The NIL will cause more issues than a shot clock will.
English

@rushmccolley25 It’s worded awkwardly, but that number is inflated.
I don’t see the problem making it varsity only, but it wouldn’t cost anymore to include JV games.
English

It's time for the IHSAA to listen to its coaches in each sport, vs. administrators.
$10,000 per school for bench personnel to run the clock? That's a made up number. That's roughly $450 per home game.
I'm in for that!
Kyle Neddenriep@KyleNeddenriep
No shot clock. IHSAA board of directors does not pass. High school basketball will proceed without a shot clock in Indiana for now. More: bit.ly/4cOrFQd

@tonywmiller Analytics are important. I personally like the Efficiency Chart. Our’s put an emphasis on shooting %, rebounding, assists, steals, & Charges taken. Usually those that score well in the efficiency chart take good shots, share the ball, rebound, & defend.
English

Krzyzewski played aggressive man-to-man for years then switched to gap defense in 2010 when his team wasn’t able to defend aggressively…an analytical decision.
Nolan Richardson’s 40 minutes of Hades was completely an analytical choice.
Boeheim played 2-3 zone 99% of his career, leaning on the analytics that he thought gave his team an advantage.
Jay Wright is like the OG of the modern analytical era.
It’s time to stop the rolling of eyes attitude towards analytics. They’ve been around since the game started. Coaches are just trying to make more informed decision.
Do some rely too heavily on the numbers sometimes and get burned? Sure. Has anyone relied on “his gut” and gotten burned? Of course.
We’re all out here just trying to the best of our ability to win games.
Dennis Marshall@mar5hallhoops
Coach K, Roy, Jay, Boeheim, Gary, Nolan, Calhoun, and many more…basically real coaches that didn’t need analytics.
English

If you are going to complain, you have to have an answer or a solution. I get that saying take Person A off, then opens another can of worms. Having coached in the Evansville area before, I have heard this complaint about a SW IN bias. Social media has changed the landscape of promotion so kids being seen/heard of is different now than it was 25+ years ago when I was in that area.
English

Just don’t get it. How Edwin Holmes was omitted is just laughable. Something has to be changed with the process of picking this team.
