My book is officially published! It will also be available on Amazon soon. It is a collection of reflections and observations of recent political inflection points, and highlights key principles of how saints can avoid the pitfalls of political commotion. tinyurl.com/patience-faith

AOC says "rivers were on fire" because of corporations like Deloitte "pouring chemicals" into waterways. Deloitte is an accounting, consulting, and tax services firm. No idea what she's talking about.

@thomaslhorrocks Historically, lack of healthcare, childcare, and housing has rarely preventing any couple from having children. Because the lack of those things has been the norm. What Sasse is doing is using a literary device to point out that seeking personal instant gratification distracts

@DecodingFoxNews @guywwallace With higher interest rates, landlords benefit, and forces people into rentals by discouraging home ownership. Instead of subsidizing renters, the govt should be subsidizing home owners.

Fox & Friends invited a man who owns 12,000 rental units to talk about real estate. He gets a number of things wrong about interest rates, home prices, and the value of a single family home. The fed has existed since 1913. This man benefits if people rent not if they own.

Here’s a novel thought: If the rich paid their fair share of taxes we wouldn’t need charity. Charity allows plutocrats instead of the public to determine what gets funded and how while using this “giving” to further reduce their already low tax burden.
Judd Legum@JuddLegum

1. 90% of Americans use the standard deduction and aren't able to deduct charitable contributions So, tax deductions for charitable giving is mostly for the wealthy. And the way that many wealthy people use the deduction has become increasingly divorced from its purpose 🧵

I think this succinctly sums up a world view that is the opposite of mine, so much I think we are talking about major psychological differences. I don’t think a world with zero charity would be better. I think it would be worse.

If you succeed in problematizing and cancelling all of America's shared civic holidays and rituals what do you think is going to happen next? (Hint: it's not going to be *more* intergroup solidarity and *improved* prospects for social justice.)

@disclosetv I like Haley, generally. But this is simply a bad idea. It’s the wrong solution, and it’s unconstitutional.

@mattduss @sarahkendzior Maybe I’m misremembering but did Ukraine attack Russia, targeting its civilians and using their own people as human shields? Is Russia acting in self defense?

@Acyn There’s a bit of irony in those who claim Ukraine is not a democracy, yet also propose holding popular referendums as a method of achieving a peace settlement.

My colleague @jackhunter74 and I debate this regularly. He believes populism can be steered for good (directing the people towards overthrowing the powers that be - the government). I agree, that IF harnessed correctly it could be. Where I disagree (or at least am less convinced) is that it HASN’T been utilized in that way. Instead those energies get directed at other people and groups, such as immigrants with the current US right wing strain or billionaires with the current US left wing strain. Thus it tends to breed animosity, racism, and bigotry within the people and they waste their time fighting one another instead of the government.
