@j_bambrick I don't think it's typical, but I can name 2 friends who have them. One couplelives in it as their home and is retired. The other is a dual income family whose kids went to school on scholarship. And their cars are old. I suspect you are seeing a lot of debt, not ownership.

We were in Colorado last week and I was struck by what is now an enormous disparity in wealth between the US and the UK. Spent a couple of nights in a cabin in an RV park - it had pools, slides, mini golf etc, fun for the kids. But the place was packed with RVs worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not only that, but it’s clearly a conservative form of vacation, so the average car on site was a pickup truck. These were almost universally less than a couple of years old, and worth at least $60-80k, if not more. I could drive you to the poshest place in Northern Ireland and though you’d see the occasional high end vehicle, the average car there would probably cost half as much as these. And then I was talking to someone and they said: “Yeah, this is the most typical middle class American summer getaway.” Middle class. Our economies used to be roughly on a par when it comes to GDP per capita. And now the American middle class lives at a level than puts the UK upper classes to shame. Sad times for us. Kudos to America for resisting the socialism that has ground our economy to a halt.

We got the rankings for High Schools in our district from last year. My school was not last. Some of you guys saying I should look to go to a better school, I kinda want to see what's going on at the actual bottom.

@sage_stage Okay but parental control without parental accountability and responsibility just gets us back to the pandemic levels of engagement.

Something that I'm seeing both Republicans and Democrats saying about education. They both want to see more parental control and decision making. Somehow I think that's where the similarity ends though

Mental health professionals, with years of training and education, haven't done much to improve mental health in America. So why, then, do we take teachers, who maybe took an adolescent or developmental psychology course for a semester, and let them meddle in students' mental health problems? It's insane.

Teachers, how’s your summer break going?

We sent all our kids to public school for the first time this year and boy, have I developed a lot of bitterness toward all the people who spent my entire life bad-mouthing public schools and the teachers who work there.

@FixingEducation I'd brainwash them to always have a pencil, folder, and notebook. And to not sneak their phones. :)

If you believe ‘all teachers are indoctrinators’, you are accepting the campaign of misinformation that is designed to promote fear and division. A random social media post that shows a teacher or two propagandizing doesn’t mean every teacher is out to ‘persuade’ your kids. The overwhelming majority of educators DON’T want to replace parents. We want to partner with families and communities. If we were indoctrinators, we’d ‘brainwash’ your kids to be kinder, respectful, curious and hard-working.

I would have never thought that one of the most divisive online debates amongst educators would be which color folder goes with which subject… Especially when we all know that: Blue = Social Studies Red = English Green = Science Yellow/Orange = Math
