@PrescottRamseyX @IanDarke Not sure why everyone’s so fussed about saying he’s one of the best National winners. He can’t prove he could go back and win over the old fences any more than Red Rum can come back and beat today’s horses off top weight.

I Am Maximus is one of the greatest Grand National horses of Aintree. Surely only behind Red Rum. Ist-2nd-Ist. That is some record lugging big weights in such a tough marathon.

I'd asumme not, but I can assure you any decent jockey can feel everything going on under saddle, and if not, they shouldn't be riding at that level. But this is hypothetical, Gold Dancer should have been pulled up after that fall, and certainly not whipped!

@TheRacingVet_ If you couldn't see or feel the horse was obviously lame after that landing, you shouldn't be anywhere near the sport of horse racing. That James Given interview of excuses was lamentable. As usual, horse racing closes ranks around the big guns.

Just a few thoughts on Gold Dancer’s tragic incident today: If a fracture of the spine or other structure occurred due to the fault at the final fence, which remained small and stable at gallop but became displaced/worsened when transitioning to a trot.

@joebloggsuk1 The BHA response will do more damage to the sport. They should have shown leadership and banned Paul Townend for a month but instead they tried to sugar coat it and hide the truth

The sheer volume of people genuinely believing Paul Townend would knowingly ride out an injured horse to the line is astonishing. Thoughts with connections who (and again I know this will be staggering for the majority of racing twitter to comprehend) will be more upset than us

I find it staggering how sticking up for animal welfare has resulted in the level of abuse I’ve received off men. Not that they are actually men… because real men don’t call women the names I’ve been called. This platform is truly disgusting sometimes.

@davidcollinscv4 ‘Absolutely filth’ get a grip, man. The horse ran on in a straight line and the injury only became apparent when he slowed to a trot. As if Townend of all people would be so desperate for a winner as to deliberately abuse the animal.

@grandoldteam84 @Banker_Racing Mandatory Pull-Up: If a horse is deemed lame or injured during a race, the rider must immediately pull up. Failing to do so is a breach of rules regarding improper riding (Rule 152(i) or 153). So not carry on and give it a reminder! Graded race or not! Disgusting!

@Banker_Racing What? You expect them to do an x ray? How's about when a horse goes fully extended on the floor you put its welfare first

Paul Townend is bound to come in for stick from the experts on X but, as a jockey, his job is to ride out a finish. It doesn't look great after the event but I'm sure if he felt that something was badly amiss with Gold Dancer after the mistake then he'd have stopped riding.

Claiming that gold dancer never even lost his action is an even worse look for the sport
