@ITalkOfChrist lol. The Book of Mormon is not a historical document. It is not supported by history, archaeology, anthropology. It's a work of literature like Dianetics.

In 1830, critics identified 89 anachronisms within the Book of Mormon. These are things they "knew" didn't exist in ancient America before Columbus like cement, horses, beekeeping, etc. By the time Joseph was martyred 14 years later, 5 of those supposed anachronisms were resolved as we discovered pre-Columbian writing systems, inscribed stone, etc. Over the next 120 years to 1965, critics added 61 more anachronisms to the list, but archeology resolved another 22 of those, leaving 123 reasons why the Book of Mormon couldn't possibly be true. From 1966 to 2019, critics added 55 new anachronisms to the mix... but archeology confirmed 167 of them. As of 2019, 70% of the supposed historical anachronisms of the Book of Mormon have been resolved, with another 11% trending toward confirmation as we continue to find more evidence. Only 19% of all the anachronistic claims were yet unrefuted (and it's been going down in the last 7 years). The trend is our friend. Time vindicates the Prophet Joseph. @Latterdaytruth I have been saying this for a while. Humans naturally seek the path of least resistance. Removing explicit standards and replacing with lofty, non-specific standards will result in a net decrease in actual observance.

There’s an alarming trend amongst Latter-day Saints that has spread in the last 8-10 years. The logic goes like this: “The church stopped publishing explicit language in a youth pamphlet that recommended not having tattoos, dressing modestly, and other standards. That means I can do all those things now to whatever degree I want.” It shows a clear and fundamental understanding of why we have standards and what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is here to do. The Church is here to help people learn how to become like God. “Recommendations” from people who have special stewardship over the Church are much more than simple rules to follow or not follow. If something is no longer explicitly taught, it doesn’t mean you should do it. The principles behind those explicit recommendations or requirements never changed.

@TeeplesCY @LDS_Dems IMHO people keep grasping for answers on this because they don't know, or don't like, the reasons that the parable of the sower and Lehi's vision clearly enumerate and articulate already.

@LDS_Dems This is what I’ve been saying. It’s great to understand different perspectives, but positioning the book as a data-driven endeavor that speaks for everyone is a huge messaging error.

I think this book can provide important qualitative information on why people leave the Church. But it can't provide statistically valid data on the Church itself. The data has a major self selection bias and it can't be extrapolated to paint a larger picture.

@rusty_curtis @KHollowell_ no beef either and I don’t want uniform or tradition overhauls, but having a nice alternate would excite everyone. I am a current student and most don’t go to games because they don’t care, giving us extra things to get excited about would 100% help student turnout

The all-white unis are just for the photo shoots on official visits. USC will not be wearing these during the season.
