@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak Okay then, why is fraud happening in these programs to the extent that it is, and why hasn't the legislature created a bill to address the problem?

@ryan_jamieson @lukerosiak I reject your premise that the government does not have enough money to deal with these problems right now. I reject your premise that there are people who are intentionally sabotaging these programs

94 Medicaid "home health" companies purport to occupy this office building, taking more than $66 million of your money. They provide free butlers to immigrants. "No windows on the outside hides the fact that there's no one on the inside." There's an entire street of these.

@ForestMommy @JesseAPaul @Jake_Fogleman I wish all of us could agree that gerrymandering is a pox on our nation and that we should move to a system that prevents it, rather than doing this stupid-ass arms race state by state.

@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak You think that problems in government get fixed automatically and for free, without any additional headcount or resources? I dunno where you live but man, it must be nice there.

@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak If we want to fix what's broken in government we have to spend money to do it. Nothing gets fixed for free. And we also have to fight against people who want government programs to fail so they can privatize them or get around oversight and regulatory requirements.

@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak Same goes for hiring more auditors across the board to check on spend and investigate fraud. There's rarely any money invested in that, and folks like yourself assume that they can add infinite programs to the auditors' scope and still get quality results.

@tbombsmnusa76 @Timodc 2 seats in ME & NH, one in VT. Those are structural issues that you're not going to get (R)s from in the House. Only proportional representation will fix that. But that also means accepting (D) delegates from (R) states, too.

@RealJeremy03 @Timodc Some of that is structural. You can't have a Republican House seat in Vermont anymore than you can have a Democrat from Wyoming. There are 2 seats in NH and ME. That's pretty structural. Slicing up Baton Rouge to eliminate a D district is a choice to gerrymander.

@Timodc Political parties are not a protected class. You don't get to carve out Democrat districts in Southern states when the entire Northeast is painted blue.

@matthewleineng1 @Timodc No, Republicans are just working to minimize the impact of their votes to the extent possible. Gerrymandering is bad no matter which way you slice it and normal humans should oppose it no matter where it comes from.

@Timodc Wait!!!! We took away black people's right to vote? They're was an amendment to the constitution I'm unaware of our is this just the typical fag leftist take to stoke racial division to keep dems in power who use people of color only for power and keep them in perpetual poverty

@lou_liberty99 @Timodc This isn't equal representation, though. It's just a partisan gerrymander instead of a racial gerrymander. Both are bad.

I don’t believe you live in America…🙄🤔 Redistricting is about equal representation and legal standards, not creating or blocking seats based solely on racial framing. You are implying that people of a certain race all vote the same way—which is a stereotype, and that in itself is a racist assumption.🙄

@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak For free? And then who's going to check those numbers on an ongoing basis? Who's charged with enforcement? Who manages reforms? There's a lot to do and we pay state employees below market rates. You want a well-run state program, let's pay state employees market rates.

@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak Would you approve of a 3-year tax increase to pay for the staff that's required to review existing systems and improve their audit capabilities, plus hire and pay (at market rates) a few auditors to review the data and report on suspected fraud within the system?

@ryan_jamieson @lukerosiak If our government cannot handle such extraordinarily basic tasks, we might as well overthrow it and go back to Hunter gatherer societies You could probably download the government database into ChatGPT and get the answer in 30 seconds

@beingleewood @bonchieredstate @Sue132435 Just because someone lives to old age doesn't mean they're not also using the services that are paid for with property taxes. In any other case when someone can't pay a mortgage or some tax, they're forced to sell. Seniors shouldn't be any different in that regard.

@beingleewood @bonchieredstate @Sue132435 But today the home is most Americans' #1 asset. That asset/dwelling duality creates a lot of problems for communities because it disincentivizes nearly any other development nearby. That's a much larger problem than property taxes because it stifles growth.

“But if you get rid of property taxes on primary residences, you’ll have to raise sales taxes!” So what? A consumption tax is always preferable to the state de facto owning your home.

@DianaVilliers1 @lukerosiak You need humans to tell the computers what to look for. We don't hire enough of those humans, the ones we do hire aren't paid well, and the results of their work are often ignored.

@Yellowsnake911 @bonchieredstate Income tax is rife with loopholes, unfortunately. Property tax is less so. A Land Use tax would be best, but most people can only think taxes=bad and the conversation ends.

From what I have read, this is short term and shows to be a lower percentage over a lifetime. It is still a better option than property and income tax due to the loopholes and savings penalties. I believe there are ways to mitigate the disparities with a VAT that may level the field.

@beingleewood @bonchieredstate @Sue132435 If it's not an asset then it shouldn't grow in value to the owner. Replace property tax with a 100% tax on all profits from the sale of a home.

I disagree. Your primary dwelling should not be viewed as an asset, even though it can grow in value. The only perceived value is on paper, similar to a shiny trophy on a shelf. In addition, the moment you sell, capital gains tax is applied. Now, they’re searching for a lesser dwelling with less money. If they decide on their own to downsize…great-that’s fine, but not forced by the government. Which brings us back to my original statement and post.
