After grossly misleading the public, @craigharrisnews, you now have the gall to complain ‘the transaction mix’ of ADE’s statistical analysis of the ESA program is off? There was indeed a glaring problem with the transaction mix…in the numbers you used to dishonestly malign the program overall. You’re whining that ADE’s statistical analysis “contains far too few marketplace and reimbursement transactions”, and yet it is your reporting, not ADE’s, that glossed over the true makeup of transaction types when inconvenient to the narrative: ✅The most recent official ESA quarterly report of all transactions (FY 2026, Q2) shows marketplace transactions made up 12.9% of all ESA dollars. ✅In ADE’s statistical analysis of a random sample of ESA purchases, marketplace transactions made up 13.2% of sampled ESA dollars. ❌In the risk-based audit sample you relied on to peddle your fictitious misspending narrative, marketplace transactions made up 44.9% of transactions(!) In other words, ADE’s statistical sample looks to be right on the bullseye of the actual spending mix. Your reporting, on the other hand, carelessly (or knowingly?) glossed over the fact the risk-based results were nowhere near representative of the program use overall. Don’t lecture others on torturing statistics. Your track record with numbers is not one to boast of.

When reporters fail to be respected in their communities and build trustworthy relationships with sources, they shouldn’t kick and scream on X about what private orgs do. They should work harder, build trustworthy relationships, and earn respect.

People are incredibly disingenuous when they message this out into the world. After deductions, exclusions, and the fact that most income sat in lower brackets, the top 1% actually paid an average effective federal tax rate of about 42% in the 1950s, versus roughly 36–37% today. Is it less today? Yes. But not even close to what they are trying to market this.
