@Ratherocity @data_atx Certainl utility issues are confidential because they are competitive matters. Disclosure of this information would put Austin Energy at a competitive disadvantage in the ERCOT market.

@RyanAlter @data_atx Often, in executive session, you discuss w/ legal counsel various issues, keep that part secret but ultimately come out to the dais and make the vote public minus all the legal counsel discussion. Why was that not possible here? Why is this vote taken in exec session at all?

CORRECTION: Ryan Alter says he did not say the natural gas plant vote was unanimous . The vote was secret. He cannot confirm or deny
Ryan Alter@RyanAlter

@Ratherocity @data_atx Love when we just make things up. I was asked at the meeting if it was unanimous and I told him the same thing I’ve told everyone else - our discussions in executive session are confidential and I couldn’t speak to it. I guess we still haven’t learned about the game of telephone.

@RyanAlter @data_atx @Ryanalter, this is about transparency and accountability did you or did you not tell folks at Radio that you voted for it and explain why? Am not even asking the cost which should also be public. Am asking you if you voted for these peakers yes or no.

@Ratherocity @data_atx As stated before, this was discussed in executive session and as such we cannot disclose the details, including our or anyone else’s vote. What is public is my item next week which gets AE to develop a policy so that these peakers won’t result in more emissions than without them.

@data_atx @ryanalter Sorry you were misquoted... strange as I generally trust who mentioned it. No harm was intended. Want to double check that YOU voted for it, is that part correct? and could you explain why this vote is secret in the first place?

@data_atx Ryan Alter (after mansplaining it to the hilt as usual) said he voted for it and it was unanimous according to someone who went to his meet and greet at Radio yesterday afternoon. He also declined to disclose how much we are paying for it. Alllllll this needs to be public.

I’m hearing word from people that Austin council members are saying they are not allowed to say whether they voted yes or no on the new natural gas power plant that was approved 👀 I have never seen this level of secrecy around a government decision before, super WEIRD!

@Will_FosterVibe @data_atx Well since you asked - we’ve nearly doubled crisis and housing beds. The # of people entering homelessness decreased last year, and we’re getting smarter about keeping people in their homes or quickly diverting them out of homelessness, which are cheaper and more effective.

@RyanAlter @data_atx How much money have you spent on these projects since you were elected and what are the results of that spending? If you keep giving more and more and there are more and more homeless, I don't think what you are doing is working.

Update on this: @RyanAlter proposed some amendments to the homeless plan yesterday around KPIs on beds But I don’t think it had this high level KPI on number of homeless he is asking for here Mr. Alter, are we still working on getting this as a North Star metric for the dept?
ATX data@data_atx

Austin councilman @RyanAlter presses the homelessness director to set a goal on how may homeless people will be on the streets 1 and 5 years from now The homeless dept recently released their 26-27 plan which included dozens of KPIs but didn’t include this obvious metric

@RyanAlter there was a shooting near Kocurek elementary yesterday. The neighborhood did not receive any alerts. We only knew something was going on because of a helicopter and the “buy nothing” page on Facebook. Is there a system in place to sign up for notifications?

Councilman @RyanAlter had a great idea in a meeting with Travis county and AISD County, city, and AISD all have their own maintenance yards to store stuff, can we just pool our resources and share? For context: The parks dept wants $85m for maintenance yards in a future bond

“The city spent nearly 10% of its general revenue budget on overtime last year, compared to 7.6% of the budget in 2021, according to city data. That's a 65% jump in overtime during that timeframe.” 10% and growing=yikes. Wish CM Alter had pushed thru his OT report resolution. 😔
KUT Austin@KUT

Austin workers were paid more than $143 million in overtime last year, according to city payroll data obtained by KUT News. The payouts are nothing new, but show the city has relied more and more on overtime spending over the last few years. kut.org/austin/2026-01…

Austin TX is now back to pre-pandemic apartment rents. Down 21% from peak in summer of 2022. $1,636/month --> $1,288/month (I'm now even seeing 2BRs in some apartments at sub-$1,000) This rental correction is due to a sharp drop in migration/demand, combined with a surge of new apartment development. At this point, Austin has its cheapest rents on record relative to income.
