More of the story... ( I am copying this from other sources because it's important and they tell it better than I can.)
"Kollek needed to pay an Irish captain on a New York-docked ship loaded with munitions destined for Israel, but was under strict FBI surveillance.
This incident, often told by Kollek, highlighted Sinatra’s deep, long-standing commitment to supporting Israel in its early days, as detailed in reports from the National Library of Israel and the Times of Israel.
While Sinatra was speaking with Kollek (at the Copa where dad was performing), Kollek told Sinatra about his plans and Dad agreed to help.
Kollek walked out the front door, drawing FBI attention, while Sinatra exited the back with approximately 1 million dollars in a paper bag.
He met the captain at the ship and handed over the money to ensure the ship could sail. This was a clandestine operation and it took courage on Dad's part. But supporting the newly forming State of Israel was a cause Sinatra supported throughout his life.
Teddy and Frank maintained a connection, with Sinatra later visiting Israel for events like the 1964 dedication of the Frank Sinatra International Youth Center in Nazareth.
