Rosa in his first two years has not put a bid on any opposition clubs NGA or Father Son. Has worked key trades with Demons, Saints and even arch enemy Carlton for its pick 9 to get up draft orders. Not sure if its coincidence but from afar seems a strategic shift in club tone

Gold Coast & Western Bulldogs have agreed to a pick swap trade. Suns will get picks 14, 33 and 53 & Dogs will get picks 15 and 29. Suns picks will crunch in and get more points for matching bids and Dogs' second pick comes in earlier while their first will be same after bids.

@Zutroy_Jones @rohan_connolly Neither do a lot of commentators which adds to the broader confusion! The key here is he had no prior so not htb, and then held on too long. They need to be much clearer and consistent on defining what is prior then the rest of it is straight fwd!

@red_eyed_goat @PatrickRyen Still going to end up at around pick 8 or 9 anyway? And it required a season from Melbourne which led to their coach being sacked. Could easily have been pick 15-20 in a weak draft …which is the point. Not as bad as North at least!

Narrative is Liam McMahon is now a given to be on the list in 2026. I dont think it's that simple at all. Forwards already contracted for 2026 - Wright, Caddy, Langford, Jones, Gerreyn, Edwards & May. You may need to trade a forward out to keep him.

If you back your knowledge of the sport - 🙋‍♂️ - on AFL historics: Michael Voss should stay at Carlton Simon Goodwin should leave Melbourne * Carlton this year are Geelong 2006, Richmond 2016 & Melbourne 2019. A talented but incomplete flawed team who after making finals, had a poor year against huge expectations. The clubs adjusted off field, tweaked on field, but the biggest & gutsiest call was to stick fat with their “non proven” coaches against massive media & fan pressures. * Melbourne this year are Brisbane 2007, Geelong 2010*, Collingwood 2021 & Richmond 2023. Geelong (*made finals but underperformed) & Collingwood freshened their core senior greats with fresh voices - Chris Scott & Craig McRae - Brisbane & Richmond didn’t and the team petered out at end of their eras. Melbourne inarguably have core senior greats, but the closest I can ever see to a “reheat the soup” success after two poor years for a long term coach was David Parkin Carlton 1999. They made a grand final - where non competitive v North - after upset of the century over Essendon 1999. That’s not disrespecting Simon Goodwin who’s an all time great of the club, but stating due to the historical challenges its best for both parties to split.
