It's been a fairly awful day at the count centre in the RDS for us Greens. I remain incredibly proud of the amazing work my colleagues in the Parliamentary Party +Leinster House and Government staff did in turning the ship that is Irish climate policy around #GE24

One election candidate is referring to NGO funding as a "luxury idea" - I suspect people who rely on voluntary hospitals, disability services, public housing etc would not agree.
Nat O'Connor@natpolicy

People are being misled by the Independent Ireland grouping. They claim €6.2 billion is wasted on "NGOs" but that is going to voluntary hospitals, schools, universities, disability services and housing associations that just happen to be charities. Is that all "waste"? #GE24

The Sultans of Ping* waited until this site was in its death throes before following me. * I'm guessing this is not actually the Sultans of Ping FC as they're missing the "FC"

It's interesting how in rape cases the history of the accused is relevant but the history of the plaintiff is strictly off limits.

BREAKING: MAYO FINE GAEL ELECTION CANDIDATE SILENT ON ENOCH BURKE’S INCARCERATION Teacher Enoch Burke has now spent 470 days in prison after refusing to endorse transgender ideology in his school. Mayo Fine Gael General Election candidate Martina Jennings was visiting Ballinrobe Community School today, 20 minutes from the home of Enoch Burke. When asked about Enoch Burke, Jennings said she had nothing to say “at the moment.” This week, for the first time in its history, Ballinrobe Community School raised the LGBTQ+ flag. The school is currently implementing the ‘Stand Up’ week developed by LGBT lobby group BelongTo. Brochures from BelongTo used in schools across Ireland this week advise students that terms such as ‘brother’ and ‘sister’ are now outdated and should not be used. They also advise students that when meeting someone for the first time the ‘they’ pronoun should always be used. This perverted ideology is being promoted in schools right across the country, with more emphasis placed on it now than on basic school subjects such as Maths and English. Parents must stand up against this indoctrination and destruction of their children.

@EnochBurke I don’t understand Irish law. If my job required me to espouse trans propaganda and I refused to do it, I would get fired. But there would be no question of going to jail.

@garrethmcdaid No one mentioned Conor McGregor. We're talking about billionaires here. If you don't think billionaires have influence I don't know what to tell you.

Only political take for today: if you see a conservative tweeting about what the Democrats should learn from defeat, make sure to check their history from 2020 so you can also enjoy their takes on what Republicans should learn from Trump's heavy loss in that election.

@eosfuturedesign So not such a mystery why people might choose to leave an apparently prosperous country after all.

@ryano Because they can’t rent affordably or buy affordable house in Ireland to become independent adults. Also professionals esp. medical, have to compete with Asian&African immigrants for decent jobs. Australia gives them affordable rents and better paying jobs.

I presume Indian immigration is legal but why the huge numbers being accepted? And why are Indians leaving their peaceful, increasingly prosperous homeland?
