Daily Devotional – April 5, 2026 Daily-Scripture “Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.’” — Genesis 22:2 The First Time Love Appears in the Bible Most people assume the first mention of “love” in Scripture is about romantic love or even God’s love for the world. But it’s not. The very first time the word “love” appears in the Bible is here — describing a father’s love for his son. God tells Abraham, “Take your son… whom you love.” That’s powerful when you stop and think about it. Hundreds of years later, Jesus would say something strikingly similar. In John 3:16 we read, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” Abraham was asked to give the son he loved. God actually did it. The Heart of the Message God loved us first. He gave us the freedom to choose Him or reject Him. He doesn’t force us — He invites us. And because of that love, we get to live in a country where we still have the freedom to speak truth, worship openly, and follow Christ without fear of government punishment. That freedom isn’t cheap. It was purchased with sacrifice — first by God giving His Son, and then by countless men and women who valued truth over comfort. Accepting God’s love costs us nothing. Living it out will cost us something. Truth is often offensive. Jesus Himself was rejected because of it. But we are called to live it anyway — not because we feel like it, but because we trust the One who loved us first. Application for Today -Trusting God is rarely easy. Abraham didn’t feel like climbing that mountain with Isaac. But he obeyed anyway. Here’s a common-sense truth we all need to remember: We do not live our lives based on how we feel. Feelings are good indicators, but terrible directors. They’re like dashboard lights on your car — they warn you, but they don’t get to decide where you go. God’s love for you is not based on your feelings. It is steady, even when your emotions are not. Some days you’ll feel close to God. Other days you won’t. Trust is choosing to believe what God says about His love for you, especially on the days when you feel nothing. Prayer Heavenly Father,Thank You that You loved me first. Help me to know — without a doubt — that Your love for me is real, even when I don’t feel it. Especially then. Give me courage to trust You when obedience is hard. Give me wisdom to live out Your truth even when it’s unpopular. And Lord, grant me clear discernment for what is happening in my home, my community, my state, and our nation. I choose to follow You today, not because I feel like it, but because I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
