During the recording of Rydeen they were shooting real laser guns in the studio. A guy died but they got the perfect song

This counts as a Pynchon Oscar. His Nobel was stolen by Bob Dylan so.

@LIBRAL0GY I find it odd to claim that romance (in any uses of the term) is spurned by the canon. This isn't even true of Leavisite criticism imo. Can you elaborate? I think non-Romance writing by women has been subject to far more sexism

it’s a similar situation in the romance genre lol like both fantasy and romance are spurned by the canon and while there are misogynistic reason for that which are warranted feminist assessment, the output isn’t that good. it really is not

the reason i can’t stand fantasy reader spaces anymore is the constant disregard of prose and the emphasis on plot, world building and “magic system”, as if those are not arranged together by technique and literary devices. they are defensive about literary criticism to a fault

I can talk any LLM out of cherished principles it held only five minutes earlier simply by expressing my dissatisfaction with its answers and this guy wants you to believe they can do peer review
Sean Westwood@seanjwestwood

The academic paper is a dead format walking. AI does lit reviews better. AI will do (is doing)peer review. Users will skim AI summaries. The real science is the question, the pre-analysis plan, and the analysis. The 30-page paper is just vestigial wrapping paper.

Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)
The idea that writers should read exponentially more than they write was completely uncontroversial among writers (Cormac McCarthy said there should be a 100:1 ration of books read to books written) until the new barely literate generation came along.
Moniza Hossain@moniza_hossain

It’s funny how we are constantly having the “should writers have to read?” discourse, when the question should be “why are you even writing stories if you don’t like them?”What made you want to create something you’ve never enjoyed?

Why does Stephen Malkmus occupy a higher cultural tier than Doug Martsch? They are at worst, the same level songwriter, and Martsch is a better guitarist Martsch’s career spans Built to Spill AND his solo work Martsch also makes more expansive music (PNW/classic rock lineage)

Why does Bob Dylan occupy a higher cultural tier than Paul Simon? They are at worst, the same level songwriter, and Simon can actually sing Simon’s career also spans Simon & Garfunkel AND his solo work Simon also makes more global music (South Africa / Brazil influences)

When Meta trains it models on 80+ TB of pirated books from LibGen and other platforms, it's called 'fair use', without them having to pay penalties and / or receive some form of legal punishment, as proceedings are ongoing. When Aaron Swartz downloaded 70 GB of articles from JSTOR in 2010 he was facing a $1M fine and 35 years in prison, before taking his life in 2013.

As someone who has studied cults (wrote a bestseller about it), let me tell you something: The lies Trump, Vance and Miller say are not meant to be believed by their followers. They are meant to be REPEATED. The repetition of the lie is the test of loyalty to the cult.

@ryengels @tracksuitpant I don't get it either honestly. I don't hold any ill will against Australians for the record lol. But I find lots of them are a bit reflexively defensive whenever an American says anything even vaguely critical of the place
