Jynxzi breaks down the one thing that he DISLIKES about League of Legends 😳 "the games on average are 30 to 40 minutes its like a journey.. by the time end game happens you already kind of know whos going to win and you're just going through the motions"

@drewlevin Honestly completely sensible and expected. Thanks for reseting nonetheless it has been quite a great thing regardless of "game quality". Good L to temporarily take to rebalance the ladder appropriately.

quoting to answer because I think more people will be interested in this we try to balance MMRs within and across teams. we're a week into fully truncating the long right tail of our MMR distribution. as people (like you) push that distribution to the right again, the system continues to try to make fair games with the people available. let's have Master 1 LP equal +1 as an arithmetic value in the following. your opgg shows you at +749 (GM 749 LP). let's say you have a team of you (+749) three people at +30 one slot open so right now this sums to 839 (this is oversimplifying for the sake of the conversation, we care about more factors than MMR, but let's focus on this for now and accept that we are not just doing addition and subtraction when matchmaking, we care about multiple factors). if there isn't anyone around you and the best options for the highest MMR player for the team on the other side are Agurin (+1477) or a +400 Master player (and then let's say there's plenty of +30 Master players), the matchmaker - again, oversimplifying, but close enough - has two options: 1. put someone on your team that is functionally -350 (d4 50 LP), or 2. put someone(s) on enemy team that are functionally -725 (this is the theoretical case for how you get emeralds in games with challengers) this is obviously non-ideal from a match quality perspective (and part of "match quality will be pretty rough after apex reset"), and I would expect that this kind of MMR range is not what you get on an insta-pop. as the ranks of high apex fill out, this problem will naturally subside, because the matchmaker will go from having very few people with larger disparities between them (you, Agurin, etc) to having more people in a tighter top-to-bottom MMR range in a given lobby, such that the disparity between e.g. you and Agurin could be smoothed by giving you more mid-master players rather than having to reach below Master 0 LP to even the numbers out trying to preemptively answer some frustrations/questions I can imagine you having: 1. "why not implement a cutoff at some point where you just don't accept Diamond or Emerald people into Master+ games at all?" plausible, but it's all a continuous distribution on the backend and there's an algorithm that governs "how quickly should the matchmaker look for a wider range of MMRs as wait times go up?" (because otherwise people would die waiting in queue for the perfectly matchmade game of 10 GM 749 LP players) 2. "the skill function of the right tail of the distribution is nonlinear, you can't just take an emerald 4 50 LP person and pair them with a GM 750 player to 'even out' the disparity vs two Master 0 LP players" sure, this is the argument for percentile-based matchmaking, although you still end up having to make assumptions about the shape of the very right tail of the distribution and there are fractal levels of nuance (role agency is a pretty simple example of how that nuance can mess things up - getting to have the GM 750 jungler + emerald 4 support on your team versus flipping those role assignments likely leads to different outcomes, but also carry junglers versus tank junglers, yadda yadda lots of stuff matters) hope this helps, sorry I wrote a mini blog post but I promise we're not just fucking around throwing darts over here
Naayil@NAAAYIL

just an honest question to my boys @drewlevin and @RiotPhroxzon if we "reset" everyones MMR to Master 0 LP how is it possible that I have a Emerald 1 Top Laner running down my game in Challenger LP range? clearly he can not possess a high MMR to be matched with me since the max MMR he could have is Master 0 LP right? and his last season rank PEAK was Diamond 4 aswell, his account is LVL 600+ too so it is safe to assume this is literally the guys main account and this is the peak of his all time performance if your answer to this is "because you (me) want low queue times so we have to give you these teammates" then I think the reset was redundant right? if the reset is not pointless and you double down on the claim that matchmaking is "fine" and that this is just normal "early split volatility" then please explain to me how this is okay in regards to competetive integrity or how this would be resolved in (for example) 5 months from now and just so you know, i am also aware that i climb and gain LP playing and winning against literal toddlers like this which basically makes my (and everyone elses) challenger rank, meaningless because we get it in a dishonest uncompetetive manner against LITERAL OBJECTIVE NOOBS AKA NOVICES AKA CASUALS below I will add a bunch of other screenshots where this has happened multiple times TODAY sometimes I won because of it, sometimes I lost either way, it is a joke and my challenger rank might aswell be purple, blue, golden, or bronze colored it makes no difference to me, try to convince me, why it does make a difference please much love from Austria

Blessed be thee. Any reason why the cutoff is at Master+ and not doing the entire Ladder as a whole? Might be an arbitrary question but there's a lot of so-to-speak "inflation" that occured resulting in the top 1% of ranked players currently being Master+ in EUW atleast. The Hard reset does solve a majority of the LP and Volatility-related issues for sure and is a great thing. But it kinda eliminates any prestige of Apex if it's *just* 1%. Are you planning to add more ranks or address this in any way?

@AshleyKang @lolesports It's most likely going to be Caps. If Caps is not up for consideration we might as well also see impactful historical players. For an NA representative it is not impossible to see Bjergsen for example. I'm also curious if they're doing it by Role or by Region at all.

Yeah you just have the classic response of most people of being overfocused on "the good parts" that are visible to them in a tunnel-visioned vacuum but I agree with you. I think whichever position one finds themselves in we have to be resilient in the view of the positives and that "self-gaslighting" is not necessarily a bad thing just something that comes with every larger endeavor. Purpose drives us forward - even if we have to justify it to ourselves on the daily through hardship.

It's one of the worst mental health jobs and I've never met one large creator who ever said otherwise behind close doors that it didn't feel like they weren't trying to self-gaslight. There is no joy in being the product which is being consumed. You are being judged endlessly, fairly and unfairly, wrongly and correct, always. It doesn't mean there can't be joys or highs or good moments/periods, but usually that feeling is always there creeping. That being said I do think it's probably extremely advantageous in the job if someone with the condition of psychopathy were to be doing the job, as I imagine such things don't bother them at all.

Just about every video game streamer who's been around 5+ years seems like they're getting burnt out. A friend made the observation the other day that even if you start posting on social regularly to build a personal brand it starts to feel a lot like running a live operations video game. You feel like you're on a content treadmill. And eventually you get exhausted because you're always running your brain trying to come up with things that people want to see. Sort of an irony in that—that people on both sides of the equation (devs + creators) are running in such a similar predicament.

It's sadly just a byproduct of a young industry like esports - people forget how the real world works. Esports is very much an industry and everyone should be aware of it's inherent volatility. Similar to any other sport really. Only thing left for esports to achieve is a good grounds for its' amateur leagues to actually allow new upcoming and current talent to develop feasibly with more supported conditions. That's the real piece of concern for me. Atleast in terms of ERLs - I can't speak of any other major regions.

Please G2 management don't do your job of preparing for the future and always keeping eyes on the market and jumping on opportunities that open up, don't honor the commitment of fans, players and coaches of surrounding the people involved with the absolute best talent Please G2 keep yourself at a disadvantage in the off-season and start it way later then majority of the teams Just in case people have their feelings hurt and don't perform in a high pressure environment where they must prove themselves daily because slots are limited even more so on a team like G2 that wants to win Don't inquire about players like Inspired when he's available because you might hurt the vibes due to potential leaks Because players definitely have no incentives to perform if they are getting potentially replaced - Players are too innocent to understand the nature of their job and they should blindly believe that they are irreplaceable and not be under the conditions of their contract that they signed What a fairy tale people are living in
