@PufffyCheeks @mdotbrown That’s valid, but I don’t necessarily think that’s a critique of the film itself. The film doesn’t pass judgment on its characters but instead invites its audience to do so. It’s a legitimate read of the film to think Charlie has made a mistake in marrying Emma.

@mdotbrown @saddy_issues I wouldn’t stay with someone that almost committed a mass school shooting especially if it’s a white man!!

@mdotbrown Would you forgive if it was a white man that went to school with a gun and almost killed people but stopped because someone else got there first? 98% of men are the perpetrators of mass school shootings.

@DandyDuck118582 @BussyKeaton Not defending her behavior (it was obviously inappropriate; she was fired from that job over it), but I think an important piece of context is that she made a reasonable but incorrect assumption that the kid would be wearing underwear.

What the dumb Chloe Fineman cancelation shows is that a lot of you grew up without friends, cause if you spent ANY time around kids in the aughts-2010s (when I grew up), you'd know that teens, especially dudes, were constantly sack tapping, dry humping, & generally harassing each other as a matter of course lol. Kids are not woke about boundaries. "Tea bagging" in video games, too. It's not shocking that a 16 year old in 2005 would pants a camper who was annoying! It's dumb & rude but part of the normal language of adolescent humor.

@aliasocfan If anything this should be a lesson in how being likeable and kind to people will pay you dividends but okay sure whatever we should make fun of a 54 year old for having been more famous in the 90s.

A24’s marketing campaign for #TheDrama went to great lengths to conceal the movie's polarizing premise. Was it misleading or a masterclass? wp.me/pc8uak-1lH5nB

@zedonarrival idk I know plenty of 30 year olds whose only real friend is their partner. But more importantly, I think this story only works if we buy Charlie’s anxiety that this darkness still lurks inside her, which is harder to sell if there’s nothing “off” about her adult life.

the drama spoilers + don’t be annoying/ i did find it hard to believe emma moved to boston in 2013 to attend BU and stayed in boston for the next 13 years presumably without making/keeping a friend. she seemed sociable enough

@TwinkTheory I mean “can I forgive this?” is a very different question from “do I really know the person I’m supposed to marry a week from now, when she’s just confessed this thing I would have never possibly imagined?”

Idk if it’s cause I was raised Catholic or just have so much guilt of my own but I feel like Zendayas reveal in The Drama would’ve been something I could absolutely overcome and feel someone should be forgiven for? I definitely wouldn’t have acted immediately terrified of her. Idk I’ve forgiven some pretty violent people in my life I guess.

@UnderstanderArt I think the instinctual hatred for Rachel is mostly projection. Rachel’s big fault in this movie is that she’s sanctimonious and passes judgment before seeking to understand. And to decide that she’s the villain, you do have to,,, pass judgment w/o an opportunity to understand.

The ironic thing about reactions to this movie is that many viewers noticed the racial element of Rachel’s reaction to Emma’s secret, but nevertheless themselves minimize the seriousness of what Emma confessed to bc she doesn’t match our cultural image of ppl who [redacted]
bacall 📼@mulhollandmiya

im also getting annoyed with people saying emma only had a thought like baby no she had a plan which she had no intention of backing out of & only didn't follow through cause of a circumstance. she may have grown & changed as a person but that doesn't mean it's not that deep.

In the past 30 days, Idris Robinson, a philosopher at Texas State University, Shirin Saeidi, a political scientist at the University of Arkansas, and Aris Fani, a scholar of Persian Studies at the University of Washington, have all been fired for speaking about the wars.
Laila Al-Arian@LailaAlarian

The University of Washington appears to have removed a professor, Aria Fani, from his position as director of the Middle East Center because he criticized Israel and stated that the claim that Iran was pursuing a nuclear weapon was untrue.

Death is always lurking. We see it in violence, in the wounds of the world, in the cry of pain that rises from every corner because of the abuses that crush the weakest among us, because of the idolatry of profit that plunders the earth’s resources, because of the violence of war that kills and destroys. #Easter

@TalkingSchmidt I still remember how nice out it was on Nov 7, 2020, when we (finally) learned that Trump lost the election. What an incredible day in the city it was like we were all on MDMA.
