Who needs systemd? Next release, comma four boots 2x faster, with just 250 lines of bash replacing systemd.

Steam Controller ran out faster than we anticipated, and we hate that not everyone who wanted one was able to get it. We’re working on getting more in stock and will have an update on expected timeline soon.

@___Harald___ @FrameworkPuter I also had a similar experience playing Portal and Half-Life 1 on Fedora. Funnily enough the Proton version for Portal 1 worked better than the native linux build lol. Proton is making serious improvements. 10 years ago, even the thought of Linux gaming felt far-fetched.

Good linux gaming is my favorite new technology. I bought a @FrameworkPuter desktop, installed ubuntu, installed steam, and plugged in a controller. Then I started playing black myth wukong. No config or complicated setup. Flawless experience.

open-source software development may be the most positive-sum industry that's ever existed. Linux, git, python, pypi, numpy, pytorch, tensorflow, nginx, redis, docker, ... have created trillions in value with only a few billion in funding.

I have also run this fun thought experiment! More of the world than many might imagine could run on outdated hardware if software optimization was truly a priority, and market price signals on scarce compute would make it happen. Rebuild all the interpreted microservice based products into monolithic native codebases! Innovative new products would get much rarer without super cheap and scalable compute, of course.

What if humanity forgot how to make CPUs? Imagine Zero Tape-out Day (Z-Day), the moment where no further silicon designs ever get manufactured. Advanced core designs fare out very badly. Assuming we keep our existing supply, here’s how it would play out:

It is time for our first giveaway. We're giving away a Librem 14 from Purism. It's a fancy expensive $1,400+- laptop. Requirements: - Follow @ddd1ms on Xitter - Comment below Librem is a pro-privacy laptop that unironically comes with a fuckin' kill switches for mic, bluetooth, camera. It has Intel Management engine disabled. It runs PureOS, with app sandboxing, adblocking, tracking protection, etc. This laptop is basically a privacy nerd laptop. It also comes with a bunch of NSA stickers, HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) stickers, FBI Most Wanted stickers, etc. I forgot to ask for the specs on the laptop, but I'll get that stuff later on. Attached image is the laptop he'll mail to your home.

Ring 0 is a highly-privileged state on CPUs. Negative Ring Levels have even *higher* privilege. You just haven’t heard of them. For X86, Ring -1 is Hardware Virtualization, Ring -2 is System Management Mode, Ring -3 is Intel ME / AMD PSP. Arm get's even weirder:

FYI, the best security researchers weren't made in corporate training rooms. They were forged by curiosity, open resources, and community-driven knowledge. If you're here for that energy then come on down!
