@RealJamesWoods What once was a hallmark of Leftism -- humanistic idealism--seems to have devolved into something far darker in this age of media agit prop against "other" when it comes to politics.

Our obsession w #sleep is directly related to caffeine over-consumption. Huge amounts of taxpayer $$ funneled into redundant sleep studies that tell us what we already know: > 5hrs on reg basis too lil & > 8hrs on reg basis >much. But it's a surefire grant approval😮‍💨subject.

@dalerwills if they were indoor cats and very sweet why not find them homes indoors?? indoor cats are not suited to becoming outdoor kitties and will quickly succumb to environmental factors. They are beautiful!! Can anyone adopt them??

We had a tenant move out of one of our rental properties and leave behind a mountain of trash. As awful as that was, it got worse. They also left behind two cats… to die. One was locked in the garage with no food and no water. The other was trapped in the house with no food and had water only because the toilet seat had been left up. If we hadn’t gone back into that garage for another week or two, that cat would’ve been dead. I genuinely can’t understand how someone could do that to an animal. The crazy part? These cats are unbelievably sweet. We brought them out to the farm and we’re working to acclimate them into becoming farm cats now. Hopefully they’ll have a much better life ahead of them than the one they came from. People can leave trash behind. That can be cleaned up. Leaving living animals behind to suffer is something entirely different.

@quay_dr during first year classes they used valsalva and Elvis to help us understand how to talk to patients about toilet hygiene. Even in those who are not heavy lifters, we were taught, were at risk of cardiac arrythmias if they had other risk factors and did a valsalva on the john.

A 22-year-old bodybuilder’s reported sudden death from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a tragic reminder: the heart is a muscle, but it is not just another muscle. Bodybuilding Influencer Gabriel Ganley had over 2 million followers on Instagram, over 1 million on TikTok and 403,000 subscribers on YouTube. I first encountered this process when I was teaching at @StanfordMed and a young neighbor, a competitive lifter, died suddenly. During maximal heavy lifting, arterial blood pressure can transiently reach extraordinary levels, reported as high as about 480/350 mmHg in direct measurements. That pressure load is borne by the left ventricle. Over time, repeated pressure stress can drive left ventricular hypertrophy. In some athletes, that may be physiologic. In others, especially if underlying hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hypertension, stimulants, or anabolic agents are present, it can become a substrate for sudden death. Strength training is valuable. But maximal lifting is not benign physiology. Young, powerful athletes still need blood pressure checks, cardiac screening when indicated, and respect for symptoms: chest pain, syncope, palpitations, or unexplained shortness of breath. Muscle should never outpace medicine. A LLM explainer for your education. people.com/bodybuilding-i…

#ScienceInAction This is promising not only to assist in early detection of MS (up to 10 yrs before standard dx) but also to help with early tx, and potentially ID drug targets. Also: It would be wonderful to end LP for dx of MS and replace with blood work. MRI scans will cont. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/an…

It's sooooo disheartening and yes tragic to see non-geneticists like Elon jumping the shark on this issue. Someone needs to sit down with Elon stat! He is very worried about population collapse, yet seems to no idea about how epigenetic changes are passed down gen to gen. for better and worse. the diet of parents affects downstream germlines. now consider: what frameshifting billions of nonsense proteins may do to germlines. just for starters... What we don't know about gamete cumulative damage with this new tech is pretty much everything. DES daughters is a concrete example of hazards of full- steam -ahead with non-essential drugging of woman esp. those of repro age. I start with a simple question: tell me what dose of spike is made in an individual, and in what organs and for what duration. This isn't a simple drug to metabolize out of one's system.

@elonmusk No — a synthetic RNA strand cannot “basically cure anything.” That is Silicon Valley biology, not actual biology. Synthetic RNA can be powerful. It can tell cells to make a chosen protein. But diseases are not just software bugs waiting for the right line of code. Cancer, autoimmunity, neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, and chronic inflammatory disorders involve complex tissues, immune responses, genetics, epigenetics, timing, dose, and cellular context. The hard problems are not just “what sequence do we write?” The hard problems are where it goes, which cells take it up, how long it lasts, how much protein is made, what the immune system does in response, and what unintended effects follow. And then there is the still-unresolved issue of DNA contaminants and other manufacturing byproducts in synthetic RNA products. Until FDA and other regulators impose rigorous, transparent, product-specific standards, sweeping claims about this platform’s safety and curative power are premature at best. RNA is a tool. It is not magic. And “programmable” does not mean “safe,” “specific,” or “curative.”

Elon Musk says the future of medicine will be completely digital, with synthetic RNA programmed to rewrite how the human body functions and cure almost anything. He describes medicine as working like software, with custom RNA strands designed to reprogram the body from within. “The future of medicine will be digital.” “If you know what to program in that synthetic RNA strand, you can basically cure anything.”

@SaP011 The guy is pure scum, but a mother of three should be home with her kids not out partying getting sloppy drunk. If she was somewhat sober she would have made it home no problem.

Remember Natalie Shotter, a 37-year-old English mother of three. After a night out, she was heading home through Southall Park in London when she passed out on a bench. There she crossed paths with Somali immigrant Mohamed Iidow. The stranger brutally attacked her while she was unconscious, he raped her repeatedly, forcing his penis into her mouth again and again, suffocating her until she suffered cardiac arrest. Natalie died after hours of sexual violence. The jurors cried while watching the footage in court. Mohamed Iidow was later convicted of rape and manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 10 years and 8 months.

@SaP011 The perp and those who imported him deserve more than 10 years, but there is another indication of societal dysfunction in this case. Why was a mother of three passed out on a park bench after a night out?

Eli Lilly has done it. They've gone and made what seems to be a powerful, permanent gene therapy for LDL cholesterol. That means they'll be able to effectively prevent most heart disease with a single infusion!
