Beware of Fake News! Do not believe social media rumours regarding 'Smart Meters'! It has been noticed that some anti-social elements are spreading rumours through social media platforms that smart meter holds a camera which breaches the privacy of consumers. MSEDCL's (Mahavitran) hereby clarifies that ‘Smart Meters' are completely safe and based on advanced technology; they do not contain any 'camera' or any system that breaches privacy of the consumers. Consumers should not fall prey to any fabricated or false information. In Sindhudurg district, criminal case has been registered at the Sawantwadi police station against concerned for spreading rumours among cosumers by falsely claiming that there is a camera inside the smart meter. Strict legal action will continue to be taken against those spreading false information. Smart meters are completely safe and secured.
