@memorynguwi When do you think is the best time to strategize? I agree with you that finishing by October is too early, I guess the thought behind is that implementation would be from January.

Over the years I have observed that most organisations schedule their strategy sessions between October and December. I am not entirely sure why this window has become the default. My best guess is that it is driven by the psychological pull of year end rather than sound strategic logic. People feel they must be seen to be “doing strategy” before the year closes, regardless of whether the timing actually makes sense. The problem is obvious when you look at how quickly things change. Imagine finalising a 2026 strategy in October 2025. Since October alone, entire economic assumptions can shift. Inflation outlooks change, exchange rate regimes adjust, regulations move, political risks emerge, input costs swing, and consumer behaviour shifts. By the time the new financial year starts, large parts of the strategy are already outdated. Strategy is supposed to deal with uncertainty and direction, but poor timing locks organisations into assumptions that no longer hold. Timing matters more than most executives admit. In my view, there is far more value in holding a strategy session either within a month after the financial year end, when you have full performance data and hard lessons from the year just completed, or within a month before the new financial year starts, when assumptions can be stress-tested against the most current realities. That is when strategy has a fighting chance of being grounded in facts rather than guesswork. I also continue to struggle with organisations that go for a so called strategy session and come back with nothing more than action plans. Action planning is not strategy. Strategy is about making hard choices, deciding what you will not do, and committing to a clear way of winning. Action plans belong after strategy, not in place of it. When organisations confuse the two, they waste time, money, and executive energy, and then wonder why their “strategy” delivers no real shift in performance. @ipcconsultants

The only way of addressing disability digital divides 8s through inclusive designs, affordable access solutions and targeted programs and initiatives. Otherwise we continue to curtail their rights and independence. Special thanks to @KICTANet @cipesa @sam_signsofhope at #DRIF25
