I remember a case of piracy in Somaliland's far eastern coast. It was either in late 1991 or early 92. Somalilanders were still dazed and traumatised by the attempted genocide. There was not a single working telephone line from Hargeisa to Heis, the closest port to the stricken ship. The 'government', which hardly existed on the ground, sent a message to the hijackers through clan leaders: let the ship go now, or you will be ostracised and shamed by the nation. It was a case of enforcing law and decency through sheer moral stance. It worked. No ship was ever molested again on Somaliland's coast. There is a difference.

أول شيء، صوماليلاند لا تطلب الاعتراف من باب الترف ولا كما تصوّرها أنت. تتكلم وكأنها كانت دولة معترفاً بها من العرب وإسرائيل ثم هي التي رفضت الاعتراف العربي وتحالفت مع إسرائيل. هذا كلام غير صحيح. المعروف أن صوماليلاند تُركت في هذا الخندق 35 سنة، وتم إجحافها تنموياً وسياسياً بسبب غياب الاعتراف الدولي. لذلك عندما تبحث عن علاقات وتحالفات تحفظ بها مصالحها ووجودها، لا يحق لأحد أن يسمي ذلك “عمالة”. العمالة الحقيقية هي أن تهمل قضية عادلة، وتترك شعباً وبلداً بلا تنمية ولا اعتراف ولا أفق، ثم تأتي بعد كل هذه السنوات لتزايد عليه باسم العروبة أو الإسلام. هذه هي الخيانة الحقيقية، وقد شاركتم فيها بالصمت والتجاهل، لا بمبادرة جادة ولا بضغط سياسي ولا بأي خطوة عملية. ثانياً، صوماليلاند اليوم لديها سيادة فعلية، جيش، حكومة منتخبة، مؤسسات، وأمن. ادخل على تقارير Freedom House وشاهد بنفسك الفرق بينها وبين دول كثيرة معترف بها. أما السودان، فمشكلته لم تبدأ من الإمارات ولا من أي دولة خارجية. التقاسم، والاقتتال، والانهيار، والإبادة التي بدأت في دارفور، كلها عوامل داخلية أوصلت البلد إلى هذا الوضع. لا تحاول إسقاط فشلكم الداخلي على الإمارات أو السعودية أو غيرها.كل الدول لديها مصالح في مناطق الحروب. ولو كانت الإمارات مع البرهان والسعودية مع الطرف الآخر، فالنتيجة كانت ستكون نفسها ما دام أهل البلد أنفسهم لا يعرفون كيف يديرون خلافاتهم، ويصطفون مع هذا الطرف أو ذاك بدل بناء دولة محترمة. نحن نتمنى للسودان الأمن والاستقرار، ولا نريد التدخل في شأنه. لكن المشكلة أنكم أنتم من تتدخلون في صوماليلاند وتتكلمون في قضايا لا تخصكم. بالعربي اعتراف دولة أو 200 دولة بصوماليلاند لن يضر السودان ولن ينفعه.فالأفضل أن تنشغلوا ببلدكم
