@burkov Hmmm you consider Goodfellas and the Departed, Heat, Mission Impossible 1 and The Shining to be arthouse? I would say these are highly influential movies that are household names. Goodfellas lost in the Oscars btw, as did Heat.

Ah, you are the connoisseur of movies no one watches, but critics. OK. For me, watching a movie is an entertainment. Movies tailored for Golden Globes and Palme d'Or to please the refined critics and arthouse lovers, that's for someone else.
No Man's Land, which no one would ever rewatch, won the Oscars in 2001, while people would rewatch Amelie dozens of times, but it lost.
